Good move for the league. These are cities where they should be playing.

Just glad the Flames aren't going overseas. We have rough enough starts as it is!

Interesting idea, but I don't really see too much long-term benefit. Do the home teams get a split of the profits if there are any?

good to see them doing this again, and these are great cities to be playing at as they will provide great fans. However sending Pittsburgh over is stupid. This is the team that the schedule is being changed so everyone can see. Taking them out of North American buildings is stupid. At least its not any western teams going over

We shouldn't have to worry about getting picked to go that much..

NYR/OTT were clearly picked for a reason (NYR aka Team Czech Republic to play in Prague) and the Swedish star Alfredsson to play in Stockholm. Dallas, Detroit, Vancouver, and some of those other teams have more to worry about.

Although seeing the Oilers play in Siberia would be kind of a nice, Ironic touch.

So, I guess they'll have to make the ice smaller...

I see absolutely no sense whatsoever in playing NHL games overseas. Why are we marketing overseas?

The schedule already is too long, the travel gets to be horrendous, give the players a break. And get rid of the All Star game too, just give the players a break. As far as I am concerned, it would be the equivalent of semester break, a few days off to refresh, reconnect with families and time to heal injuries.

I think what some people are saying is why play in non-hockey cities across the States and then Market the game in Europe....Maybe spend some time marketing the cities you can't get 5,000 people to watch a game at....

because sometimes thinking about more than tomorrow has some relevance. 10+ years down the road, maybe the NHL creates a European conference(similar to the WHL in junior) that could draw 20000 to a game 80 times. there is money in Europe for hockey, tapping it is the problem and this is step one.

big deal, there are lots of people in North America who would like to see a game too and can't afford it.

They want to see a game, come here, spend your tourism bucks here

exactly, there are constant threads here about teams that will have to move their franchises. NHL brass should address the problems they initiated when they let franchises open in some of the current locations.

I think you've proven exactly why the NHL would look over-sea's at expansion. First because further expansion in the US is not an option. And second because there is a market for NHL hockey in Europe and they want to tap into it.

And the NHL Marketing Machine cranks out yet another diabolical scheme.

This is fine, they've just used any easily relatable link to determine which team plays where.

Jagr in Prague and Alfie in Sweden, and Sid anywhere.

I might point out though, that they are sending the current worst NHL team over there in the Tampa Bay Lightning.

All Eastern Conference teams I notice too...

I don't think the NHL will EVER move to Europe. Even with 2 seperate divisions.

A 5 or 6 hour time difference change for East Coast teams will probably a lot easier to handle than a 9 or 10 hour change for West Coast teams.

The East coast always bitches. We didn't whine when we had to play the Sharks in Japan. At least I don't remember an uproar.
