The more I watch how close these games are the more I'm convinced ten bad minutes from your club on a night like this has a heck of a lot more to do with the opposition then the team you're watching closely
Anyone else thing "careful that's Pavel Bure" every time #10, David Booth had the puck on the rush?
Might wanna fix that one
Wow...

The two points vaults the Flames from 13th spot into 10th, one point back of the 9th place Blue Jackets, and get this; two points out a tie for 6th, three points out of a tie for fourth, four points out of a tie for their division, and five points back of 2nd overall in the conference.
That's crazy!
Oh and for the "No Goat" comment...I would have made the goat the Panthers fans just like for Chicago. Wow was it ever empty...and quiet!

which just goes to show that those 10 minutes lapses can be super costly too.
i thought that we dodged a huge bullet tonight...i thought that the pants did lots of nice passing and shooting lane blocking as well.
with 30 seconds left and not being able to get the puck out...i thought we were done.
wow. good write up.

You could probably give an honourable mention to/add to the Big Save (I believe it was) Eriksson's save in the dying seconds of the third, when the Panthers were trying to score on the empty net. That would have been the end of the game otherwise.
Great game? Don't know what hockey you were watching but neither of these victories could be described as great hockey. Long periods of doing stuff that amounted to very little. Carried for two games by Kipper. Not exciting whatsoever until OT when they finally decided to go all out.
I wouldn't say they were playing particularily well other than Kipper. They are back to giving up 30+ shots a game after they had finally got that under control. The offense always looks like it's an excercise in futility till it hits Iggy's stick.
They are scraping out some points but man this better not be as good as they can play -- they need to get a whole lot better to get anything near great.

Playing great but losing isn't playing great. Knowing what you have to do to win, i.e. keeping it close, letting Kipper do his thing and being patient and keeping your head in the game, and coming out with wins. That's better.

I agree...but baby steps, at least they're getting points now. Not to mention that in the first period they should have had at least 2 goals but Voukon stood on his head.

well I said it was a great game ... not that the Flames played "great" .. they seem similar yet are not in any way.
The Flames played terrible in the first five of the second and the last five of the second. Really well in the first, and pretty well in the third. They were the better team.
Picasso? Nope ... but then I never called it that.
Anders Eriksson (one R one K two S's) has really turned his game around since the early part of the season. He used to make me miss Susan, and now makes me forget Giordano.
And since when did David Hale become a serviceable NHL defender?!? I guess he got his kidney disorder sorted out and it's good to see. Who says Sutter crapped the bed at the trading deadline?
EDIT - Full credit to Mark Smith for showing up, but IMO he got his ass kicked.

I thought he had got a defective tv. The technology was in its infancy. It took a long time to figure that one out."

.
I second that, not a good game.... The end of the third was decent the OT was exicting but the game was dull. The gang on Fan960 (i.e. Mike Rogers) also commented that it was a slow game..... and the OT was great.
I have to completely agree with you in regards to your comment on Godard.
I have been fairly hard on Godard and for good reason. Last year he wasn't good but he's been making me eat my words. He's not going to light the other team up, but he's now not a liability on the ice. It's good to see that we can have a very good enforcer who doesn't hurt us while being on the ice.

Anyhow another two big points....
Great write up!
I only got to watch the first period and a half, but the first period had a pretty good pace to it. Not a slow game at all.

These defensive pairings really seem to be getting the job done. A nice combination of grit and puckmoving ability. Their solid play takes the pressure off Warrener rushing to return to action.
And I agree with Flashpoint about Eriksson. Dollar-for-dollar, I still think that Eriksson was the best defensive pickup in the offseason.

Totally agree. And lucky or not, I'd say the empty-net skate save should earn him a nod as "Mr. Clutch" for this game! 1.4 million doesn't buy you a top-pairing guy, but for the money, Eriksson is... well... money!
