Default Tuomo Ruutu arrested for attempted robbery (and released)

Quote:
BENSENVILLE, Ill. (AP) ó Chicago Blackhawks forward Tuomo Ruutu was mistakenly arrested and detained briefly as a suspect in a robbery attempt in a Chicago suburb, according to authorities.

He was released after indulging an officer's request for an autograph.
The most surprising thing is that someone in Chicago actually had heard of a Blackhawks player enough to ask for an autograph.

That's pretty funny. I wonder what his teammates are going to do to him? I'm glad he had the good sense (and good humor) to look at it as a "fun" incident.

It does kind of make me wonder what sort of neighborhood the Hawk's rink is in though!

I thought he had got a defective tv. The technology was in its infancy. It took a long time to figure that one out."

It's his close-set eyes and low criminal forehead.

One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software

Personally, I blame his brother. The only thing worse than having a lot of enemies yourself, is to have a relative with a lot of enemies.

It's adjacent to a really bad part of town. There's a derelict hotel right across the street. I wouldn't want to be around that area in the dark when there wasn't the police presence that an even at the United Center brings. I've done business around there several times, and always thought that calling in a police escort might have been a good idea.

I'll try to get some pictures of the area in a couple weeks!

Yeah, my bro went to a game there years back and in his quest for a cab after the game he wandered into "that" neighborhood. Luckily, he was picked up by a Fire engine that stopped when they passed by, and was asked what the h*ll a white guy and his blonde haired girlfriend were doing in that part of town.

Lucky to escape with his life, apparently.

GREAT! I am going to Chicago to see the Flames in March, staying at the Fairmont which is a nice area as far as I've read, but we were planning on walking to the arena. May have to re-think that plan.

Ruutu got arrested near their practice rink in Bensenville, IL which is near O'Hare and isn't really a bad neighborhood. The United Center is near west of downtown Chicago about half hour east of Bensenville.

The area around the United Center has vastly approved over the years where mainly the bad rap is from affluent caucasians who live elsewhere who snub a predominately minority, low income area. It's like Calgarians with Forest Lawn.

Funny story.

Walking to the arena wouldn't be horrible, although even in the daylight it's not the best of areas. Walking back to the hotel after the game would be the scary part.

On another note, see ya there

I went to a game there last year, and I asked what train to take because there are two lines that go fairly close (2 or 3 blocks away) and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. We were told to take a cab there, which was fine because it was -20 and a hurricane, and I was pretty dissapointed. I was expecting a huge ghetto with some projects, something we don't see here, but it wasn't that bad at all. After the game we hopped on the bus, half people from the area, half people leaving the game, and it was totally fine. I didn't fear for my safety at all there... unlike the time I had to take a leak behind a gas station in Inglewood, or pull over in Compton for my friend to puke

A story similar to your Ingelwood/Compton story is when I hopped a subway from Manhattan down to Yankee Stadium, but got on an express that went right past Yankee Stadium and the Bronx into Bedford, Queens. We were told, "Do not go above ground, cross over underground and get on the next subway going the other way, express or not".

They guy telling us said we were actually pretty lucky since we got to the game about 10 minutes quicker by hopping the express and catching a regular train back, but said we wouldn't have wanted to go above ground.

Jarko still remains at large. Instagating was the infraction, and when police attemted to confront, he turtled and ran.
