Default Keenan issues challenge to stars

That's his own stars (small "s"), not the Dallas Stars

Sounds reasonable to me. They're the stars and leaders of the team, it's their responsibility to get going. Really, at this point in their careers, there isn't anything Keenan can tell them that will kick-start them. It has to come from within.

I know Keenan is new, but comments and posturing in the media about how the Flames need to change their game is wearing pretty thin in Cow Town right now. I've heard this crap for over a season now. Lets see some results.

Hopefully this public "calling out" of players will whip them in to shape. How long do you guys think this thread will get before people start complaining about Keenan scaring Kipper out of a contract extension?

Judging from his reaction after the goal was scored, he knew exactly whose fault it is. His own.

I see nothing wrong with calling him out on it.

Why would he pardon Sarich for the first goal? A "vet" should know that you don't pass the puck to a goalie with the opposition coming the other way. Yes, I know that Kipper passed it right to Datsyuk, which was terrible, but that started with Sarich.

EDIT: And why do they throw in the "with comments from Kipper in tomorrow's paper" comment? Kipper's not going to have a war of words with Keenan in the press.

SECOND EDIT: LOL at Keenan's ranking. ESPN sure doesn't like him. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/column...t&lid=tab5pos3

What are you talking about? For starters how are you speaking for all of cowtown? Secondly, I can't think of a single word there he says that isn't accurate. Lastly he hasn't even done as much of this as you suggest.

Good to hear. Kipper really screwed the team with that first goal.. I mean, it was a sweet pass on the tape to Datsyuk and all but the result doesn't win your Vezina's.

That took alot of air out of The Flames right there.

Iggy needs to take control. To me it's like Tanguay is doing all the work out there.

I think Iginla needs to take a look at Nolan. The guy is forechecking like crazy and hitting people. Nolan has been one of the main cogs as to why the #2 line has done well containing cycling pressure in the offensive zone.

Iginla just looks plain lazy and uninterested out there.

I notice Iggy doing his lazin around the opposition blue line next to the board while standing still routine a lot. Someone passes the puck to him and he's got .5 seconds to do something before the defense comes in and strips the puck away. If he'd stop doing that garbage and get back to playing as a power forward again he might pot a few.

I suppose the funny part is that when he's doing that play, he really is invisible since you can't really see him next to the boards at that angle, heh.

Wow. OK. I'm only speaking for the fans in Calgary that listend to all of the talk from the Flames' about how they were going to work harder, re-discover their identity and correct their road record, and saw none of that take effect last season (or early in this one). I guess I was only referring to the fans who think that actions speak louder than words. This also speaks to your last point, Keenan wasn't here last season, so how would he have done anything with the Flames? I'm talking about being sick of all talk, no action from this team, not from Keenan. Somebody who pays attention to the Flames should have recognized this.
To your second point, where did I say he was innaccurate with his comments? I said talk is cheap. I want to see results. I won't assume anybody else wants to see results though, since that seems to offend you so much.

Beautiful comments. It is the players' responsibility to get themselves going, not the coach's.

I originally thought that you were sick of the coaches using the media to call out the players. I couldn't figure out what you meant because Playfair did very little of that last year.

But none the less... it is the player's responsibility to motivate themselves, the coach can only do so much to motivate them. If Iggy and Kipper don't get themselves going, there might not be much Iron Mike can do.

Good. It hasn't only been Iggy, but as captain its his job to be working his butt off every shift. He looked like the laziest player out there against Detroit, it seemed like whenever we got any momentum that top line would get out there and effectively kill it.

I don't know how many times I yelled at the TV "What are you doing? Skate goddammit!"

The team should think about giving the c to nolan. He at least goes out there every game and throws a few hits and does something positive every shift. Maybe if players like iginla and the rest of the leaders on the team followed suit the flames would get some results.

Good on keenan for calling these guys out, but i said it last year; there is something wrong with the leadership of the flames. How many coaches does the team have to go through before someone starts pointing fingers that way? If you aren't noticing your captain on the ice each and every game there is a big problem....and i mean noticing him for the right reasons.

Are you kidding me?

I hate to say it, but sometimes the crap on this board can be downright embarrassing to read as a Flames fan.
