Players talk about the preseason record:
Quote:
"You don't want the regular season to start like this, but we saw what we've done wrong," Craig Conroy said after Saturday night's game in San Jose.
"We know when we've played well, what's worked and what hasn't. Obviously, we didn't score a ton of goals."

Sarich and his iron man streak:
Quote:
Yes, since hitting the big time, he's been oddly blessed, managing to stay healthy in a horribly hazardous pursuit.
Not that it's a wince-free existence.
"A lot of little nicks and cuts and things that could potentially keep you out of the lineup . . . you have to play through," Sarich recalls. "I had a broken toe a few years back. Every time that thing got touched, it felt like it was being rebroken. But you suck it up and you go out there.
"The odd time you get cut up, you're full of stitches. From blocking shots, sometimes your muscles are seizing up because they're so swollen. But you have to draw a line from when you're going to help the team and when you're going to hurt the team."

"Your head has got to be right every time you go in a game," he says. "Even when your body isn't how you'd like it to be, you find a way to get through. You either play a little smarter out on the ice or you just will yourself through the game. That's a big part of it."

Bruce Actually sides slightly with the league on their Downie decision, wonders never cease!
Quote:
Good on the NHL for suspending Steve Downie till age 49 for his head shot on former Flames forward Dean McAmmond.
Nice to see Colin Campbell, the NHL's dean of discipline, crawl into the 21st century by recognizing the traumatic effects on the brain.

Iginla wouldn't mind seeing 3 on 3 in overtime.
Quote:

"I'm just happy every game has a result (no ties)," said Iginla, "but three-on-three would be interesting.
