I am pretty pumped for X Fest in 2 weeks, besides the fact I love outdoor shows I think Linkin Park (first time in Calgary ) and Incubus is a solid combo and some other interesting bands too!! Question though since I am out of town, does the LRT run to Fort Calgary? What stop do we get off at and how far is it to Fort Calgary? Or are we better off to drive down?
Hopefully they have more than 10 porta potties this year.

What a mess last year. People just started pissing everywhere. So gross.
For getting to Fort Calgary your best bet would be taking the train to the City Hall station (I believe?) and walking. It's not too far, probably a 15 minute walk or so. Don't bother driving, you won't be able to park anywhere close.
The Smashing Pumpkins coming to the dome on October 4th. Presale starts Tuesday.
Billy Corgan and three musicians that weren't part of the original Smashing Pumpkins and yet Billy is still calling them the Smashing Pumpkins are coming to the Dome on Ocotber 4th.

Billy Corgan is The Smashing Pumpkins. Jimmy Chamberlain was in the reunited band for a while, but left to form a new band. And while he is a talented drummer and contributed the second most to the group, he is still just a drummer, and lots of other bands continued without their original drummer (like The Who or Crowded House.)

I hear Zwan is the opening act.

Yeah, but they didn't lose their bassist and lead guitarist either.
Corgan may have written everything they did in the 90s but i suspect wretzky and iha reeled him in and were pretty fundamental to their sound.
Seems like Corgan also believes his own hype a little too much.
Considering the stories about what a dictator Corgan supposedly was during the recording process, and how the stories of him doing most of the bass and guitar parts himself...he basically is the Smashing Pumpkins. I have no problem with him touring under the name.

Woah woah whah! Let's not say things we can't take back here. Carrying on without a bass player or rythmn guitarist is one thing. But to suggest drummers are replacebale is laughable. We're the backbone of any band, the most important musician, if you will.
Soundgarden, Blink 182, Our Lady Peace (which was just plain pathetic). Soundgarden and Blink 182 were fine I guess but nothing special.
I saw the pumpkins on their mellon collie tour which was the height of their popularity, I just think anything i saw now would be terrible by comparison.
I saw them twice last year and they were awesome both times, although the saddledome sound always makes things seem a little worse.
On the pumpkins subject, saw them a few years back when they did the reunion and still had chamberlain, it was a pretty underwhelming show, and I'm a big fan, I'll probably pass on this one unless I get cheap/free tickets.
A little OT - i bought 2 tickets for Steve Earle at UCLA in January, orchestra level, centre stage and after all the ticketmaster add-ons, it was less that $50 for both seats. I can't remember the last time I spent that for 1 ticket, let alone 2.

I have no problem with him touring under the name, I just don't think it's the same band from the 90s.
I guess I've had a rough 15-18 months where I've seen many of my favourite bands from the 90s and have been horribly disappointed.
As you've probably discovered watching other '90s bands nowadays, original members don't really make it any better. Most of the bands from the '90s are all wash ups by now and are just living off of peoples' nostalgia.
