Hopefully he signs..would make my week PLUS take tons of pressure off of Sutter comes UFA season to look for guys to fill the holes on the D. I would be very happy knowing the Flames have 3/4 of their top 4 defense going into free agency.
I wonder if the timing of this, coming one day after Keenan's hiring, means they think Stuart is a player who might be attracted to the Flames because he thinks Keenan improves their chance of winning a Cup? I don't think anything Sutter does is a coincidence so I find the timing of this offer kind of interesting.
If the salary cap goes up, and considering who Sutter traded to land him, plus his performance once he got here, you have to think they are offering legit money. Hopefully he does end up here.
Otherwise, the removal of Ference and Kobasew frees up cap space to pick up a UFA or two!!
I woudl say around there. The longer the contract the cheaper per year. I am thinking anywehere between 3-5 years. I have a feeling it may be 4-5 years.
Thanks but no thanks. Sucks for whomever gets him at that cost. Get 2 x 3 million dollar defenseman instead (one of which could be Hamr) and roll your defensive lines more. He is not THAT good.

Id much rather spent 4+ on Stuart over Hamr and another anyday.. The last two playoffs have proved that Hamrlik can't cut it..

Yeah, when I threw that number out there, I wasn't 100% sure either. But I think I'm leaning on the side of Stuart being worth those dollars.
He's only 27-years old and probably about to enter the best years of his career. "3-million dollar defencemen" is a tough term to qualify since the value of defencemen is gonna shoot up come July 1st when someone makes a silly offer for a UFA defenceman (I'm guessing Souray), effectively transforming 1.5M to 2M dollar defencemen into your mentioned 3-million dollar group.
If Stuart signs, Hamrlik is gone unless he signs for less than 2. The point about timing is interesting as well, when one considers Hamrlik has already voiced his desire to return to Calgary and now, news of an offer to Stuart surfacing first.
Something about Stuart makes me hope he doesn't come back. He never really seemed to enjoy it here. Seems to be in this sport for the money and the hollywood lifestyle more than the love of the game and winning the Cup.

I didn't really see that. I saw a player who's career was being hurt from being moved to boston, playing on a bad team and losing that passion for the game. Once he came to the Flames..the longer he played the mroe drive he had IMO.
I'm happy we tried because I think with both Regher and Stuart in the lineup our D core would be outstanding (especially since Stuart really excelled the last part of the season). However I am really skeptical as to whether or not he will actually sign here.
Yesterday, Peter Maher suggested that if Sutter gets the sense that Stuart will not sign here, he made trade his rights to another team prior to the draft, giving that team exclusive negotiating rights for one week. At most this may garner a very low draft pick or future consideration (pending that team signing Stuart), but it is an interesting thought
Location: Hoping Timmy Thomas and The Hockey Gods stop a soccer team from winning The Stanley Cup.

O-VER RAT-ED *clap-clap, clap clap clap.
Stuart is not worth 4-5 million, especially on a long term contract.
I for one will not shed a tear if he leaves.
