Default Free Agents, and where they will end up...

Ok, since the season is over, July 1st seems to be a pretty important date in terms of how our team and the competition will stack up against each other. So just for fun, try to guess who will end up where.

Brad Stuart -> LA or SNJ because of his wife.

Daniel Brier -> probably resigned with Buffalo. He's a big part of that team and I get the feeling he'll want to stay.

Sheldon Souray -> Edmonton. (a bit overpayment) He can't play defense, but Edmonton doesn't care. They want someone who can man their powerplay, and fans will see this as the big signing Lowe promised.

Roman Hamrlik -> signed back to Calgary, with a bit of a discount. (we're talking slightly less than a million discount.) because he says he wants to be back, and at this point in his life, it's probably a pain to move his family to another new city.

Daryl Sydor -> no idea, but what do you guys think of him in a flaming C uniform? And how much will he demand? I'm guessing he'll be available for $3.5 - 4 million.

I have to go now, but I'll post later. Feel free to add your own baseless conjecture.

I like Sydor, but he clearly hasn't aged as well as his former Partner in crime, Zubov. His skills are in pretty far decline, and he isn't nearly as good as he used to be, not even close.

Big pass if it comes to 3-4 million, that money is much better spent on Schnieder, whose game is better in every way right now.

Drury comes here in a perfect world.

EDIT: And this is still knowing that we have more than enough centers.

Pretty interesting.

Are we talking about Owen Nolan?

I have my doubts that Sutter would gamble on another old player..i.e. Amonte...especially with a lot of young guys in the system.

I think we resign Hammer...and one more big name defensemen.

Florida (less than 20M), Washington, Pittsburgh, LA, NYI all have less than 25M committed to salary next year.

Edmonton, Colorado, Anahiem, Phoenix, St.Louis, Buffalo, Montreal, NYR, Atlanta have less than 30M.

These teams will probably be more activate than other teams.

After reading some comments in this thread about Ryan Smyth and maybe signing with Calgary ( I realize this thread is all fictional) but do you really think Sutter would sign him? Seems kinda pricey to me, I realize I would love for Calgary to sign him, hes a great player, and it would be great to piss of Edmonton. But really would this be a reality?

For the dollars and term he'll want, I can't see him coming to Calgary. Flames could use a second line RW (Smyth is LW), but their main need is going to be 2 top 4 defenceman. By the time they secure those, there is not enough cap left for another top forward. Plus the team has to be mindfull of a plan to attempt to keep their three core guys past next summer too, so big long term dollars to other players effects that. Only way this would possibly work is if Tanguay is traded off for a defenceman and than Smyth takes over Tanguays slot. Which is a series of moves I'm not really keen on unless it's one hell of a good deal on the defenceman acquired for Tanguay.

Interesting 'no takers' Lanny.

You think Hasek is going to try and push his luck one more time with free agency? He might retire.....or on the other hand, his pride won't let him retire, and he'll go into post-July 1 thinking someone will sign him.

Detroit will resign Hasek, he worked out great for them so if he doesn't retire they'll probably give him the same type of contract he had last go around. and i don't see any goaltending prospects in the Detroit system that are ready to take up the reigns
