Last Friday when I was heading home on the C-Train, they stopped it at the Barlow station, and said there was a major problem with the tunnel between Marlborough and Franklin stations. They ordered everyone off to take the adjacent train's. I never heard anything about a problem with that tunnel in the paper and/or the news, anyone else get caught in this, and do you believe there was an actual problem?
Yeah, I got stuck in that mess....And two other things happened to my delay my train. There was also a medical emergency and the track switching mechanism at city hall wasn't working. Everyone on my train was wondering if there were actually problems. I thought it was a little bit too much of a coincidence that 3 things like that happened the day after a strike vote.
It took me 2+ hours to get home on Friday when it normally takes an hour.
What are you going to do if there is a strike/lockout? I have no idea how I'm going to get to work in the mornings and home in the evenings if that happens...
There was a big sign at Whitehorn all week last week. I didn't take the time to read it, but my guess is that it would have something to do with tunnel repairs...

I stopped reading the sign when it said the repairs were to take place late at night on May 5 or 6. (Saturday or Sunday night)
A driver I had a while back wouldn't open the door at a non-stop location for a guy who wanted on. The guy outside was screaming come on MAAAAAAN, and the driver kept repeating, Sorry, work to rule with the door shut.
They've been on work to rule for the better part of a month now...or longer even. I'm sure they'll get a bit more "uppidy" about the rules if no progress happens on Wednesday.

I don't ride transit anymore (other than the extremely odd time I take the c-train from a game or something). So I havent been following this story closely at all.
Could someone explain to me this situation. Why would the bus drivers be enforcing the rules much more than they used to in the past?

Because they think that a high school education with no skill set should entitle them to a $30/hour job. To hell with them, I hope the city takes a hard line stance and sticks to it! If you want to make big wages get an education or go out to the oil fields.

Heh, you think they'd be doing a worse job rather than a better job!
The only thing I can think of is it means less people get to where they need to go, and it annoys more people, which in their mind turns into public unrest about transit services and blame the city, allowing them to win in the public opinion venue and increase their bargaining power.
I don't think it works that way though in anit-union Calgary.

I think this is having, or would have the exact opposite reaction.
As an "outsider" to this problem this makes me upset, and I have lost respect for the transit drivers.
I don't know all of the details, and I'm all for them getting a competitive wage. However, I feel that they are taking the wrong route to get this.
I would think that providing even better service would get the people and the company on their side.
