Why do you want Smyth so much?
I've read this in several of the threads. Sounds to me if many of you had your way, we'd be signing Smyth up - damn the consequences.
Yes I know he is gritty, tough, a good leader and he scores a few goals. But do you really think (considering where he played most of his days) that he could lead this team? If we sign him for 5.5 for 5 years, or whatever it is he wants, that will kill us next summer when we have to sign Kipper, Iggy, Regher, Lankow, etc. He's just not worth the money. At this stage in their careers, it makes way more sense, for example, to keep Tanguay than to go after the mullet.
For me the best part of Smyth's game is that he is not afraid to stand in front of the net. I admit that this is something the Flames desperately need, but I'd prefer if one of our young guys could take this up (Moss?).
The only benefit to getting Smyth would be to hear all the bitching from up north. Why all the love for Smyth? Discuss.
