Putting the Pieces Together: All The 'Gossip' In One Place
NEW WED UPDATES:
-CP Link to Sutter Press Conference Thread
-NEW Warrener comments - get off Jim's back, we (the players) screwed it up. And bad. Boy are we ever....SELFISH (a blunt interpretation, but scroll down...)
-Ritchie complains....
Hey Everyone.
Well what an interesting last day or so with regards to malcontents in the dressing room, coaching criticism, players thoughts and so on.
Anyways, I thought it would be good to corral all this into one thread - for the hope of finding and/or discussing an over-arching theme or 2. So here comes , below, a collection of the quotes/musings/rumours/etc.
I will update it as more (unfortunately, it is apparent that there is more) comes out. Remind me if I have missed something. For now, anyways:
'There's a lot of time for me to go through that process,'' Stuart said. ''I really did enjoy coming here. Definitely it's a place I could see myself coming back to, but I'm not at that point where I'm making that decision yet.''

Flames captain Jarome Iginla would not comment on his coach's performance. ''They tell us how we did. We don't tell them how they did,'' Iginla said with a chuckle.
"Of course," replied Warrener, when asked if he wanted to see, expected to see, Playfair back behind the Flames' bench next season. "Definitely. Every time in sports when things don't go right, it's, 'Fire the coach!' It's always the coach's fault, right? C'mon. In playoffs, it's down to the players. Whose fault is it? We'd better look in the mirror first.''
"I'm not ripping anybody, and I'm not saying guys didn't (care) . . . but this year there was too much concern with individual stuff, and not the emphasis on being a close-knit team."
17. CONROY DEFENDS PLAYFAIR
Forward Craig Conroy says switching coaches again would not help the Flames. ''It's Jimmy's first year and it's growing pains,'' Conroy said. ''Jimmy knows the team, he knows what's going on. I always thought he did a good job handling everybody.

Madness. Would be nice if some of these could get confirmed but I don't see that happening for at least a little while here.
I really don't like the rumour about some players feeling we'd be better off without a coach. I guess it sort of depends which players but if true that is a pretty serious issue that'd require either Playfair to be fired, said players being traded and/or not re-signed or both. I don't know how well sitting everyone down and working things out would go.
I think our bottom two lines were big problems for us this year so I'm glad the majority of our RFA's come from that group. Allows us to completely re-tool our checking and energy lines to effectively do their jobs as well as take pressure off our top two lines. However, if Playfair really is cause for this much concern from a group of players perhaps getting rid of him is also needed going into next year.

good thread. keep er updated this is interesting stuff. hope we can sniff out the problems. oh... and does anyone know where i could catch the interviews? i missed them all.
The Hamr and Iginla news far outweighs anything else.
Sutter will take out the garbage.

I posted this in the other thread but it is especially pertinant to this one.
Well ya know what? Iginla and Hamrlik both said they want to be back next season and well into the future. Unless they knew for a fact Playfair wouldn't be back, they must have not been part of the group who would have rather had no coach at all.
I personally think some of this is being fabricated by a controversy-thirsty media. I'm sure there were discontent players who were especially unhappy with Playfair but I have trouble believing any of them would leak that to some reporter.
I don't care if you're unhappy with Playfair and I don't care that the season is over - it is busch league to do this crap. If you want out, then leave; no reason to smear the employer who was paying you millions the last few months. Again, I think this is mostly fabrication but there is likely some truth to it which just makes me angry because some these guys who we cheer for are selfish pricks who don't deserve to play in the National Hockey League much less wear the sweater that we all feel so strongly for.
This crap is unacceptable and pathetic purely on the parts of some select media trying to get some attention and players trying to feel better about their garbage efforts and performances.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time that Stuart would be looking long and hard at signing in California in the off-season. Granted Stuart denied it when he was asked by the media but what exactly do you expect him to say? "Yeah, I'm going to play out the year in Calgary and then I'm definitely going to San Jose regardless of how we do." We'll have to wait and see but I really wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if that's where he ends up.

This really has the ring of "It's not you, it's me" to it.
Good idea to put these altogether in one thread. It beats fishing through the other ones.
Anyway, nothing but good news as far as I'm concerned. Didn't care that much for Friesen. I like both Iginla and Hamrlik, and I wasn't 100% sold on Stuart, although I think more time would be good to really assess his value to this team.
The coaching rumours are somewhat troublesome, but I am taking that with a grain of salt until someone substantiates it.

Actually I think Stuart said that the rumors of him wanting to go to California were totally fabricated. I'm not saying it won't happen or that he wasn't lying, but he could have just responded to the questions by saying what he said today. He said they were created from thin air.

I thought Lanny had a good post earlier in the year (yeah, I know...) when he said that it was absolute garbage and a rookie move for Playfair to apologize to Amonte after benching him. Lanny was right.
If Amonte was one of the discontents, is it possible that this totally started derailing the team, then did Playfair try and mitigate the damage by apologizing to get the room back in order?
Or was he legitimately sorry because Amonte wasn't one of the malcontents and was wrongly lumped in?
We seem to be pointing a lot of fingers at Antonio Amonte but we haven't much more than speculation on that angle.

yea, from what i've seen of amonte's interviews, i really can't see him being a problem. i am definitely no expert though. and also...iirc, didnt he have an interview at the beginning of the season saying he'd accept any role, just wanted to help us win?
"When you're winning, everything is great and everyone loves everyone else, but when you lose, there's nothing worse than losing, everyone starts to tear everyone else apart" (or something like that)
This is no different, but it's sad to see/hear guys allegedly saying things that simply should have been said months ago (behind closed doors) and dealt with then, instead of allegedly festering throughout the playoffs, like a poison.
RedHot thanks for this thread...I was at work all day and there is no way I will be able to go through everything before I go crazy so this thread is a great idea...I was trying to bug people to do this in the Friesen thread, glad someone did it
