Default A tale of 2 struggling organizations... Edmonton and Nashville

Nashville draws hockey players but can't find a hockey audience. Edmonton draws hockey fans but nobody wants to play there.

Some good points

I love reading that right wing tabloid "The Providence".

Jim Kelley is such a donk.

It's really too bad a team like the Preds is wasted in such an awful hockey city.

I'll agree with the weather, travel, lack of entertainment options, and lack of privacy away from the rink but what the heck is "a less than comfortable family environment?" I'm sure any player could find a great family environment in Calgary or Edmonton.

Its a sad reality. Hockey players are probably the most spoiled athletes in North America. They get the fat contracts like other sports. But in about half of the cities in the league. They can collect their money, and be anoymous when they leave the rink. Can you imagine an NFL or MLB player who can get away with that in the cities they live and play in? Its not just going to be a problem in Edmonton. I can see it being a problem in Calgary as well. Now that the Flames are popular again.

As for the fans in Nashville. Give it time. It may take 10 or more years for hockey to really catch on in Tenessee. Its not a sport that is traditional to the area. A winning team will help. I don't know how many of you have watched games in Nashville on TV this season? But any of you who watched the last game that Calgary played there. The atmosphere in that building seemed pretty excited and loud to me.

ROFL. Last time I was there my friends and I were making fun of that monstrosity trying to think of other things they could add to it. A driving range on the roof?! A pirate ship?! Wait, they already have those?!

Few speak on the record (it's just not the Canadian way eh?), but off the record they speak of weather, a less than comfortable family environment, the ridiculously long travel to even the closest NHL cities, the fact that there are relatively few things to do in regards to non-hockey entertainment options and that fact that its nearly impossible to have a private life in a city where hockey players are viewed as rock stars and no subject is off limits.
Pfft. I don't buy that.
