I am hoping someone can provide some information on locations, cost expectations, etc. for a wedding in Vegas. My sister is planning on getting married there if her boyfriend is not granted access into Canada, but has no interest in a cheesy chapel with Elvis as minister kind of thing. Any help would be much appreciated!

Bellagio has really pretty chapels a good distance from the casino. You wouldn't know you're in a casino and you don't hear any of the casino noise. They are tastefully decorated and look very sophisticated. The wedding coordinators there are top notch. My sister-in-law got married there about 4 years ago. I think the packages range from about $6000 to $20,000, but they include photographers, flowers, DVD and if I recall correctly, two nights at the hotel, among other things. The hotel rooms are very nice too.
I was expecting a cheesy Vegas wedding when I heard they were getting married there, but the ceremony turned out to be very dignified and beautiful.
For a less expensive alternative to Bellagio try TI (Treasure Island). The Chapel is on a seperate floor then the casino unlike Bellagio. Not as nice as Bellagio but it's like going from a Rolls Royce to a Mercedes.

Most of the bigger ones on the main strip have a nice chapel, not tacky, so Caesers etc, they all have one.
Don't stay on the strip (unless you have lots of money). Do some research and get yourself a hotel/motel off the strip, you'll easily save about $50-$75 a night.
Get yourself a rental car so you can escape and see some other sights. Get out and see some stuff other than the strip.
The actual marriage license is (was) $55. It shouldn't be much more now.
Marriage itself was ~$300.
At the chapels, IGNORE the tip envelopes...do not fall for the "Well, the expected gratuity is $75". We paid jack squat.
Limousine costs are usually included in the price of the marriage. Don't pay extra.
Everything, all inclusive for us was ~$1500.00, but that includes 3 unexpected extra days because we got married on September 10, 2001...If you're confused, do the math.
Despite the 9/11 thing, we had a blast and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Yes...I'm cheap.

Thanks everyone, this is helpful. I am in the wedding, so I am apparently appointed the job of researcher!
Is it necessary to go down there a few months before to set things up, or can it easily be planned from Calgary?

I definitely don't have much $$ so staying at a hotel off the strip is highly likely.
The car rental is a great idea. I'd love to stay a few extra days, maybe go to Death Valley. I'm not sure if I'll be able to though, as I start a new job right around the same time. That, and I hear playing servant to a bride is a rather time consuming job.

You're best off planning your trip during the week instead of the weekend. Staying off the strip for your first visit would be a huge mistake. There are plenty of deals on the strip that can have you staying in a hotel for a great price. I think the first time I went I paid only $49 / night at Treasure Island.
Figure out what you want to spend a night and then go for the best hotel/location you can find for that price. Staying at some Motel6 ten miles from the strip isn't worth it.
Accomadations you may wanna look into is the Jockey club. They are condos located on the strip right next to the Bellagio. It's a time share thing,we got a 1 bedroom suite with a pullout couch.Came out to $405 Canadian for 4 nights. It has a kitchen as well. Its jockeyclubvegas.com I think thats a good deal especially if you go splits with someone. We are going down in two weeks so i can tell you how it was.

Oh! Good idea, also check out the Polo Towers, they're right next door to MGM Grand, across the street from New York, New York. I got my friends a rate of 85.00 per day on the weekend of Frozen Fury. I was paying almost 300.00 per night at MGM on the same weekend.
