Default Game Day: Vancouver @ Calgary - 8pm CBC HNIC

A tough game last night might spell an even tougher one for tonight. I don't see the Canucks being as physical, and we have a better team, but Luongo is the X-factor again tonight. Usually, putting out 21-5-0 home record on the line is quite easy, and doesn't garner much worry. But tonight, since we are playing the only team that can seem to beat us, and the rough game from last night, tonight is a toss up.

I still have faith, and think the Connie-Iginla combo will be just what the doctor ordered for luongo.

Remember the days when Canucks fans were:

"Flames are zeros without kiprusieve"
"Flames are the most boring team in the NHL"

Now that the canucks have employed a defensive first system, and have a goaltender that is only a couple of leagues below kiprusoff, is it time for nux fans to do an about face? Anyway, I just still find that interesting. Nature of the beast i guess.

I'll go with 3-2 flames win,

Iginla, Huselius x2
Cooke, Naslund.

PS: Its also a tripple header today on CBC:

1pm : EDM @ COL
5pm : TOR @ OTT
8pm : VAN @ CAL

Great proline day, as 28/30 teams are playing. If only this democracy essay would dissapear.

Mr McGoo will be reffing the game once again, and to make it worse, it will be his 1000th reffed game - which we all know will probably make him want to be the centre of the show.

I just hope none of the Flames get injured from the cheapshots the Canucks will throw around based on how he let the BJs get away with murder last night...

I didnt think M-Goo was too bad last night, there were a couple questionable calls, but there werent any outlandish/phantom calls.

That said, I fear for tonight, as Canuks games usually end up with the refs calling about a million penalties against us in the last 5 mins.

If the Flames bring their woork boots, there's no reason that they should lose a 5th straight game of this series against the Canucks. They need to win this game, though. It's a 1st place game, and if they lose - they have given up 10 pts. to the Canucks since New Years. Not happening.

I could only imagine the trash talking that would ensue from all the bloody Canucks fans around, here, too... and everywhere else for that matter. I really wish I could understand the hatred that Vancouver expresses towards Calgary. It's like their life mission.

Anyway, The Flames best be prepared for a war tonight. If they stay out of the box, avoid stupid plays that give up odd man rushes, and play a defensively sound PK and 5 on 5, they'll probably win it.

Edit:

Also, if Justin St. Pierre is officiating alongside McGeough tonight, I'll be happy. I like St. Pierre's reffing so far.

Calgary is beat up and have a handful of players who need a night or three off. Second night of a back to back against a team that has their number. It's an easy game for the guys to mail in.

but

this is the sort of game that we will win because it's a statement to the rest of the conference. We have a whole truck load of reasons to lose this one, but it won't matter.

Calgary wins this one in a chippy, typically dirty Canuck game.

Call me crazy but I really think this is going to be a signature game against the Nucks. In the losses that the Flames had to the Nucks, they really carried the play. I don't think the Canucks D can contain our forward speed. Iggy has had a long rest, and this game will showcase his leadership. Regher and Phaneuf are going to be angry tonight because of last night and if Goddard plays he's going to send a message to the rest of the league.

Special teams has been alright over the last couple, and losing four in a row to these pugs has to be rubbing the team the wrong way.

My gut tells me its not even close, 5-1 Flames

Its not the end of the world if we lose BUTTT!
The Flames have GOT to beat the Canucks, convincingly would be the best.

I really didn't feel the Flames have played their best agains't them so far, there have even been periods where our guys went AWOL.

Its almost like the Flames are refusing to take the Canucks seriously.
If the Flames play with some passion and intensity, we should win.

Canucks get good energy from their 3rd/4th lines, they have set the tone in the previous games with aggressive play, hitting, winning puck battles, timely goals and going to the net hard.

We need to challenge guys like Cooke,. Burrows and Bieksa , get them off their games. If you don't play them hard, they get bolder and start taking liberties..

It's too bad the Blue Jackets game was so physical, we HAVE to play Vancouver physical. Hit everyone, especially their D and get traffic in Luongo's face all night long!

He was, my guess would be we just gave him time off to showcase Zyuzin against a not to great hockey team(columbus) for a potential trade.

To me this isn’t about Luongo as it is about the Sendins so far this season they have a combined 16 points in 12 games against Calgary

We cannot afford to take penalties against these guys

If we can keep it even strength and shut down Daniel and Henrik than we are in the clear if not we could be in for along night

I say 2-1 Canucks in OT

2-1 Flames in OT would be just as bad.

Hopefully everyone comes in relativly healthy and our offensive streak continues and lines continue to gel.

Defensivly, we still need to tighten up but look for a renewed Toker to have a strong game.

Oh and Jayems, as for the democracy essay, just copy and paste a bunch of Looger's posts together and hand that in.
