Just a quick question. I have been out of calgary for almost 10yrs now. Thinkin of moving back there soon..but I don't know anyone there anymore. Do you think Calgary is a easy place to get to know people? Still a friendly and welcoming place?

I think it is. You're going to get jerks no matter what city you live in. The one thing to watch out for in Calgary is the rising crime rate, which comes with the massive growth we've had.
Calgary drivers are as bad as New Yorkers. Totally uncourtious, rude and have no basic knowledge of how to properly drive. There are exceptions, but for the most part, we suck.
But outside of their vehicles, they're as nice and polite as anywhere.
I've been out of town for four years having just moved back in June and I find Calgarians to have changed very little. Still a great place to live with good people all over the place.
Sure there are problems with growth but it's still a city with a lot to offer!!!

So No you aren;t in China anymore. There you go Neeper.
I've found that the people here are still, for the most part, friendly. Getting some more dickhead big city types, but that's natural evolution, I think.
My office has a TON of people from out of town...without exaggeration, I'm part of 20% who were born and raised in Calgary. I've found that people here get along with their co-workers pretty easily, and find it easy to hang out and such with them. So that's probably the easiest avenue for meeting people.
There's also no shortage of clubs/sports teams so to get out and about, either.
I am going to agree with that. The skill level is night and day. There is mayhem on new york streets but not because of the drivers but because of the situation. If you were to magically drop new yorkers onto Calgary streets the flow rates would double. Rush hour would become a half hour less.
New Yorkers have this strange skill that Calgary drivers don't seem to have the knack for. It is tricky endeavor but once the red light turns green New yorkers have figured out that they should step on the gas. Calgary drivers first lkie to stick their fingers in their bum then sniff them prior to stepping on the gas. This sniffy sniffy habit seems to worsen the closer the car is to the light.
Actually we Calgarians are a bunch of dickheads.....you'd be better off not moving here, along with the other 50,000 people who are thinking of moving here in the next year.
Traffic in Calgary is not caused by volume. It is caused by painfully bad drivers - people who drive 50kph on Deerfoot, people who can't bother to move when the light is green, people who turn left so slowly a turtle could beat them, people who have to have to 100 feet between them and the car in front.
If people here drove with any semblance of skill, there'd be no such thing as rush hour.
I was going to chime in on NY drivers too. Austin has the worst drivers I've ever encountered bar none. I would dream of the drivers here to have the abilities of NYC drivers...

Currently in Vancouver, the people are less courteous and the traffic system is complete mayhem...but hey they know how to book it, so if we could get Calgary's roads in Vancouver with more Vancouver drivers we might actually have a good traffic system.
Man I miss those nice big Calgary roads...where everything actually does make sense.

I've noticed that Vancouverites take very aggressive left turns. You'd think that cloud of ganja over the city would calm everybody down.
