The Smelly Rat
September 16, 2004

Following in the footsteps of so many before him, Martin Biron has stepped up to the plate and has taken a significant cut in pay.

"I am the nuber one goaltender in Florida and I feel that I am extremely important to this team" said Biron. "However, I also understand the financial difficulties that this team is facing, and I felt that I had to step forward and do what whatever I could to help".

Details of the offer were not released, however, it is expected that Biron's new, re-structured contract, will begin immediatly.

"Biron has really stepped up for this club" said Penney. When we aquired him, we felt it was absolutly neccessary to work out a new deal to fit in with this team's current financial situation."

"We finally have him locked up and we are extremely happy about that" said Penney.

It is believed that Biron's contract has been extended over three years.

After long negotiations, The Smelly Rat has learned that Martin Biron has signed a new, 3-Year, $5.55 million dollar contract.

Sacrificing about $3.0 million dollars for this year, Brion's agent was able to work a deal that sees Biron remain a Panther for three more years.

"We decided that it was in our best interest to lock him up long term while reducing his salary at the same time" said Penney.

At only 26 years of age, Biron is already showing signs of becoming a great goaltender in the CPHL.

It is rumored that Penney also tried to lock up forward Trent Hunter to a long term deal but those negotiations have stalled.

"At this point we are not willing to give Hunter the kind of money that he is asking for" says Penney. "We are going to wait and see what happens this year before making any long-term commitments".
