Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 8 Run Off

With Mangiapane and Poirier in basically a tie it's run off time.

Round 9 will have to wait until tomorrow.

While Mangiapane had a great year last year, I feel like Poirier is more all-around.

Also, Mangiapane went in the 6th round for a reason. And it's not like he substantially increased his point totals after he was drafted. Great offensive upside, but still a few question marks. Still an outstanding prospects for where he was drafted. Can't wait to see what he can do in the AHL this year.

Poirier had a bad season last year, but his prior 2 seasons were nothing to overlook. I'm going with him.

Really like Eat Bread, and he may end up being the better player in the long run. However, I feel Piorier, despite the awful season last year, is still the better prospect.

Poirier for sure.

I like Mangiapane but personally I feel that CP overrates him a bit due to his numbers in the OHL. Would love to be wrong though!!!

I stuck with Poirier ... how many switched their votes that one of the two earlier?

Poirier has been invisible in his few NHL appearances and had a subpar season last year in the A. He doesn't seem to be the same player he was in junior. Hopefully one day, he gets that swagger back. He also never scored more than 87 points in a season.

Mangiapane still has that potential, so he gets my vote. Back to back 100+ point seasons is something Poirier has never accomplished.

I've never understood people switching their votes. It makes more sense to keep voting for your guy until he gets in.

on the flip side Poirier has never had the quality of teammates that Mangiapane had in junior.

sticking with Poirier until I see Mangiapane in pro.

Doubt if anyone would switch. It will come down to those who chose others. I went with Wotherspoon...

Sticking with Poirier. It will be interesting to see how Mangiapanne fares in the AHL, with bigger players playing against him.

Mangiapane needs to show that he can produce against men before I give him the nod here. A good AHL season this coming year and he could move up a lot. But until that happens I vote Poirier.

Sticking with poirier. There is a reason our scouting staff picked him where they did. I'm going to trust them.

I went with Pribyl in round 8. Between these two, Poirier gets my vote.

Voted Poirier in the last one, Mangiapane in the runoff.

I really don't know who I prefer. They are very different players... and I'm optimistic about each of them.

I think Poirier is more of a sure thing, as far as developing into a middle six winger with speed, and an edge to his game. Mangiapane has more offensive flair, but still needs to show that he can play that way against men.

That, or not all of us hold our opinions as absolutes and are willing to be swayed by intelligent discussion and observations from other posters.

The only times they've played on the same ice (2015 Dev Camp, 2015 Pentincton, 2015 preseason) I thought Mangiapane was better than Poirier. More noticeable, better sense for finding open ice, and a flat out better shot.

At the time the argument was that Poirier would turn it around when the real season started... but he didn't.

Mangiapane for me. I like the underdog who's overcome things, whereas Poirer has taken a step back despite all that promise and hype of a first rounder
