I'll bet that was surprising so early in the day.

Their car left the road, crossed a grassy area, clipped a utility pole, ruptured a gas main and went airborne before crashing into May's house, about 500 feet from the road.

Sounds like Chevy Chase going to a motel.

something almost exactly like that happened to one of my brother and some of his best friends their senior year of high school. His buddy was driving on a really bad stretch of highway, which shouldn't be called "highway" more like potholed road with no shoulder and is an 80 zone. His back tire hit a pothole, axel broke, car flipped, hit a telephone pole while it was airborne, doors popped off at this point, then rotated twice in the air, and landed down a 15 foot drop on its roof.

Passanger walked away with cuts to his face from when the telephone pole hit the windshild, the driver was removed via the jaws of life, airlifted to Halifax, but was ok, broke his leg in three places, but that's the worst of it.

It was a scary time, hopefully everyone in the story above is ok.
