Against Me! singer Tom Gabel reveals plans to begin living as a woman in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Gabel, who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments.
In hindsight the lyrics to The Ocean are a lot more relevant now. It'll be very interesting to see how this plays out in their music given the raspy/rough singing voice she utilized previously.
Man or woman, Against Me! are still a terrible band.
Good on him/her for doing what is true to themself and not worrying about industry/fan perception.
I think terrible is a tad harsh. It's not like they are Nickleback. But I do think their sound defiantly has a shelf life in terms of an age demographic.

Punk music on a whole has been stagnant for a decade or so, but Against Me!'s New Wave is one of the few punk records released in the last 5 years I've really enjoyed.

I was actually just trying to piss off jaydorn.
I haven't listened to enough of their songs to pass judgement on their music. Though I wasn't a fan of what I did listen too. Not my cup-o-tea. I'm not their demographic though.

Oh Yeah? Well of all the Star Wars prequels, Nemesis is by far the best. Still can't believe the cylons killed Darth Maul.

I'm not a huge fan either. I think most people are into punk into their early 20s. Obviously some stick around, but I don't find it has that mature of a sound. Which maybe is the point. But at this point in my life I'd much rather listen to Stars.
That being said I used to listen to a lot of Rise Against. In fact I still listen to the older stuff. The last album blew.

Punk music is more vibrant right now than it has been since the mid 80s.
You just have to look deeper.
Against me! hasn't released a good album since As The Eternal Cowboy.
But good for her...I still enjoyed seeing them, and hope they continue to make music.
I can't imagine how tough it would be to have the 'wrong body.' A guy I play soccer with has a niece who is in her early teens and is going through this. Unfortunately the family is from rural Alberta and aren't dealing with this kind of 'scandal'
