Icon38 Grossman signs extension in Philladelphia (4 yrs- 14M)

Quote:
Grossmann joined the Flyers before the trade deadline from the Dallas Stars for second- and third-round picks, and has thrived while helping the team replaced injured captain Chris Pronger. He has six assists in 22 games and has added an a physical presence to the blue line corps the Flyers were missing without Pronger, who is out for the season with a concussion

Damn, I kinda wanted us to get him. Doesn't matter, we won't be a playoff team anyway

You are right Poe. We shouldn't sign anyone who may make our team better since we aren't a play off team. Makes sense.

Looks like a good signing for Philly. Too bad we couldn't have used our 2nd round pick to add an asset like Grossmann instead of getting rid of Kotalik. Our D-core is extremely soft and is in need of a player like Grossmann.

Unless this team makes some drastic changes, then we won't be a playoff team. A 3-4 defensman isn't going to push us over the edge to become a playoff team, if anything it'll keep us in the same boat as we've been in the past 3 seasons.

I guess we could just keep the status quo and try for that ever so magical 8th spot by keeping the majority of this team together and "tweeking" a few positions.

What do you want Feaster to do? Trade Iginla for a winning team? There isnt a one trade move that sets this team up. The fans need to be patient and show a little common sense. They will need to ship out who they don't think mixes with the team and bring in people who potentially win. If signing a 3-4 Defenseman does that, then it is a STEP in the right direction.

You said yourself you kind of wanted him on our team, but then say we are not a play off team. So which is it? Do you want us to perpetually suck or make moves to try to improve our team? If there was a magic button to make us playoff contenders every year dont you think other teams wont use it?

I think of this team as Lego. You need all the pieces to fit to build something good. If you have the wrong peices or they don't fit, you have an incomplete project.

Sorry for completely derailing this thread, but the impatience of some people are starting to piss me off.

I would like him on our team because I think he's a good defensman but not great so he might stick around for a few years until we're good or we could at least shop him for future value.

I know this team isn't one piece away, I'm willing to bet they don't make the playoffs next year reagardless. We shouldn't make one move and trade Iggy, IMO we should make a few moves and trade Iggy, Kipper, JayBow and whoever elese we can because like I said, IMO we're not a playoff team. If we keep everyone we have and don't make it, what have we gained. I think we should target guys like Grossman because he isn't great but might stick around for a rebuild.

If anything, I'm saying I have the patients to go through a whole new young guns era, I lasted through the 90's and I'll do it again. I'd have more patients for a team in a rebuild then a team that thinks 8th place is the goal they should shoot for.

You say your starting to get pissed off with peoples lack of patients, I'm getting pissed off by some peoples dilusions of what this team really is.

We need a rebuild, and we're going to need to do it soon before any and all of our valued assets have no value at all.
