Sorry, I have not kept up on the Calgary Puck L33t List. I really just want to have a discussion about this topic. Apparently thread protocol is more important in this community.

You could easily have had a discusion about this topic in the 'Iggy v2.0' or the 'trade Iginla to a contendor' thread or the 'Iginla Discusion' thread, or in the inumerable roster threads or most sensibly in the 'Keep Iggy or Kipper' thread
To me you sort out your coaching situation first, then the coach sits down with iggy and lays out how he wants iggy to play, then you ask iggy jot think about if he can/will play the way the coach wants him to, if he says no then ask him if he wants to be traded and to submit his list. If he stills wants to stay here then remove the c from his jersey and give it to......

I wonder sometimes if the Iginla riddle can be solved a different way? Is trade him or remain status quo the only options.
The problem seems to be his leadership, his willingness to buy in to whatever coach is behind the bench or whatever system he is asked to play.
So why not install a new captain? Ask Iggy to take less of a leader ship role and tell him he only has to worry about going out there and playing. Make it clear that it is no longer "his lockeroom".
Publically, the face of the franchise slides into a mentor role for the new leaders of this club. Behind closed doors Iginla supports this direction or he doesn't.
If he does not buy in to this proposition then it is clear you do not have a team player on your hands and he has to go.
See the bolded. This is the false assumption that makes your idea kinda pointless. If Iggy was a "good leader" or "bought in more" or whatever other nebulous, unmeasurable quality you think he lacks would this have been the difference in turning this team into a contender? Doubtful. So taking away Jarome's captaincy IMO is not going to get this team in the playoffs. It will only serve to create more locker room problems. So to your original question yes he must be traded or remain status quo.
