Phoenix Coyotes Sign Ilya Kovalchuk!

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Coyotes announced today the signing of Ilya Kovalchuk to a new three year deal. The contract will take effect next month.

Rumours say that Ilya will be making $22.5 million over the course of three seasons and has had no-trade and one-way clauses included in the contract.

GM Eric Olson had this to say, "We reached a breakthrough in negotiations last night and this morning and were easily able to close the deal. We are ecstatic to have Ilya on board for three years and hope he will thrive in the desert!"

However, this move would put a strain on the Coyotes finances, so look for some movement in the desert.

I am content at $7.5 million... $10 million is too much. As it is I am going to have to worry about finding the money... it will be tight.

I know many GMs are opposed to NTCs, I just want to solidify the future of the team by making them assets to build around.

I also forgot that the cap for everyone is dropping from a base of $63 million to a base of $61 million, this puts further pressure on my finances. Should be... interesting.
