Colorado - Boston Trade

Colorado and Boston hooked up on a very quick trade.

Coming to Colorado is goalie James Reimer and Ryan Johnson. Clearly I need a goalie after trading Craig Anderson away and Steve Mason's brutal NHL play, my goalie situation for next season looked extremely bad.

The available (projected) goalies in UFA were Roloson, Theodore and Giguere which were not going to cut it. I then started looking at teams with 2 starters. Boston was one of those teams that could afford to give up a goalie.

Reimer has had a decent NHL year but has been hurt (I sure do attrach injured guys) but I need to take a risk and hope for the best. He is only 23 years old so there is a lot of room to grow. Goalies are the hardest to project so I hope this deal pays off.

Going to Boston is Nick Foligno, Dan Ellis, 2nd (cal).

This wasn't a trade I was really in a rush to make, who knows how Reimer will pan out. But I was kinda worried he would be mediocre in the NHL this year and wouldn't earn his RFA contract due this summer. Lehtonen would be my number 1 for sure, so having too much money tied up in a backup wasn't going to make sense. So, I made the trade. And, considering I signed Reimer as a UFA a couple years ago, I got back some pretty good assets back "for free".
