What credit cards have the best rewards?
Long story short, I am going to get a second credit card to use for work expenses. My personal credit card is free/no rewards. With this new one, however, I think it will be worthwhile to get a rewards card if the rewards will outweigh the cost. I plan to do my own research into it as well to find the right one, but figured it is worth asking the CP braintrust if you know of any particularly good ones out there.

I think the MBNA World Points World card is great as long as it has two worlds for some reason. $89 a year for a 2% reward card with cash back.

This is a long running discussion on another forum I follow (redflagdeals.com).
The general consensus seems to be that the MBNA World Points card is the best for most people.
It's what I and the wife have. We definitely make money using it. We each get a cheque for $50 from them each month (sometimes I get $100).

Been done several times on here... As per these threads and Money Sense magazine, the best cash-back card is the MBNA Cash-Back card , which is not advertised - you need to ask for it, and the best travel rewards card is the Capital One Aspire (need to make at least $70K/year).

this is a very relevant topic for me. I need to ditch my crappy RBC Rewards card.
After many years of use, I have enough points for 75$ Futureshop GC.
will be contacting MBNA shortly.

I use the TD Travel infinite. I travel a lot so the reward just reduces my credit card bill every so often throughout the year. It works out to a minimum of 1.5% cash back, but keep in mind it's not a true cash back. They make payments to your credit card after you travel (plane/car/hotel/etc.).
I really like TD's website and customer service. I also have the USD card with them.
I have the Holt Renfrew American Express that I use sparingly and I put all my gas on my CIBC Petro Points MasterCard.

I have an RBC cash back card that's 1% cash back with a $20 annual fee. I make about $100 a year on it.

Scotia has a new Infinite card that gives 4% cashback on gas and groceries, 2% on drug store and recurring bills and 1% on everything else. $60,000 income minimum though or $100,000 per household I think.
Also there is the moneyback bank account now too, 1% on ALL purchases.

I've said it before, but don't brag about the rewards you get with a card when you're using it to pay me. I pay higher merchant fees so you can get those rewards, and while I appreciate the business, you're just reminding me how much I have to pay someone for the privilege.

Yup, but I don't mind paying $20 a year to get $120 back. I guess it depends on how much people use their credit card. I don't like racking up huge credit bills either way.
The MBNA card is $89 annually with 2% cash back on everything. The RBC card is $20 annually with 1% cash back on everything.
For me, this works. For others, it probably doesn't.
Sidenote, does anyone pay their bills via credit? For example, if I pay Enmax / Rogers / Shaw through Visa, then immediately pay off the Visa, would this get me cash back?

Luckily I'm not in retail so I can usually talk them out of it and wait an extra week for the cheque. I once had a customer asking to pay a $30K invoice with a airmiles visa card, I told them no.

if you're spending that much, you'll get more back from other 1% cash back credit cards where you dont have to pay an annual fee.
Not only that but RBC has a ceiling of $25,000 on cashback eligibility.
also RBC gives you $1 per $100 spent. so it's not exactly cashback on everything when you're $10 or $15 short on the next $100 mark
