KOVALCHUK A COYOTE

Associated Press

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Coyotes have made several trades in the last few days but they all pale in comparison to the deal just pulled off between the Desert Dogs and the Bruins.

The Phoenix Coyotes have acquired 21-year-old star Ilya Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk had 54 goals and 104 points in 83 regular season games during the 2004-05 season and 14 goals and 26 points in 18 playoff games on the road to winning his first Stanley Cup. GM Eric Olson, finally recovered from a bout of throwing things after losing to the Oilers, had this to say, "Ilya is the best left winger in the CPHL and was 6th in scoring for the entire league last season, having played fewer games than each of the top 5. He is, simply put, what the Coyotes need to get to the next level. He is a key ingredient into the youth movement in Phoenix and he will be in the desert for years to come. Thank you to GM KevanGuy for begin excellent to negotiate with. We gave up a lot for this young man, Kovalchuk, but I promise all of you Coyotes fans out there that he IS worth it."

...and in regards to giving up a lot, the Phoenix Coyotes acquired Ilya Kovalchuk for Keith Tkachuk, Scott Hannan, and Igor Grigorenko. GM Eric Olson addressed these three by saying, "Great players come with fantastically disgusting costs. Tkachuk, Hannan, and Grigorenko are all excellent players and the entirety of the Phoenix Coyotes' team wishes them well. Igor Grigorenko has progressed amazingly and will be a dependable CPHL forward for years to come, he will make a good Bruin. Now ladies, gentlemen... I'm off to fill some roster holes."

So there you have it folks... Howe Conference finalist Phoenix Coyotes trade for Kovalchuk, sending Tkachuk, Hannan and Grigorenko to Boston. Amazing day.

*NOTE* Strange happenings in Calgary, Alberta, Canada... home of the Calgary Flames. The moment that the Bruins and Coyotes approved the above trade, it began to pour rain in Calgary... possibly a coincidence... possibly not. Axel?

The Bruins are proud to announce that Keith Tkachuk, Scott Hannan and Igor Grigorenko are now members of the 2004/2005 Cup Champion Boston Bruins.

Going to the Yotes is superstar Ilya Kovalchuk.

It was a tough trade to make for the Bruins but considering the contract climate we are currently in we though it was best to get as many assets for one player as we possiblly could.

Tkachuk (83 OV and 88 SC) will play on the first line with Mats Sundin and Conn Smythe winner Pavol Demitra.

Hannan adds another well rated D to the Bruins impressive corp.

Grigorenko is a solid bluechip with a decent rating already. He is only 20 and adds to the Bruins shallow prospect pool.

We hope Ilya plays well for the Yotes and we commend GM Eric on his patients during the negotiations.

We would also like to thank the other GMs that took the time to make decent offers. Thankfully the low ball offers were far and few between.

For the record... it was a tough trade to make but I think it will be worth it in the long run.
