Nice I like the hire. I was hoping for DeBoer (because I think he might know how to get Bouw going) but this is another guy that coached with Brent in the WJr's correct? I know he was awful in Ottawa but hopefully will be a solid assistant here for us.

Looks like DeBoer is still getting head coach consideration. McKenzie just tweeted hes in the running for Ottawa along with MacTavish, Dave Cameron, and John Torchetti.

Not that terrible. He did make it to the playoffs 3 times and advanced to the 2nd round with Chi-town in the 97. He might be a better Ass. Coach I think. I wonder what they would put him in charge of??

To be fair he was coaching a terrible hockey team and proof to that would be the record of his replacement. As an assistant on a team that will hopefully continue to gel as it did in the last half of the last season he might be a great fit. There will be far less infighting and he won't need to be the disciplinarian.

He has a pretty mediocre head coaching record but he's being hired (if true) to be an assistant coach, so his HC record is mostly irrelevant. I like it because he has tons of experience. I too am curious what aspect he'll be in charge of. (Besides excellency )
Coaches are hard to judge because oftentimes their past results are due to many other factors (dressing room, assistants, GM, pressure, etc.).
So for those saying its a great move or a terrible move, you can't really judge this like you can judge the players. So much goes on behind the scenes in coaching that we'll never know.
I'm just happy that Brent is finally able to pick his own assistants.

Assuming Lowry is still doing special teams wouldn't that leave the vacant assistant coach positions as being Defense, Goaltending and Video? (McGill, Noodles, Cookson)
Good candidate for CGY asst GM job would be local CGY boy Ryan Jankowski, former NYI asst GM/scout, now scouting for MTL in the West.
With the Islanders Ryan Jankowski managed the scouting staff and was responsible for drafting:

Since Jankowski began managing the scouting staff in 2006, the Islanders have drafted – among others – talented young players such as John Tavares, Kyle Okposo, Travis Hamonic, Josh Bailey, Matt Martin, Kirill Petrov, Kirill Kabanov, Andrew MacDonald, Brock Nelson, David Ullstrom, Kevin Poulin, Calvin de Haan, Mikko Koskinen and Casey Cizikas.
