There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to most fans. It is a dimension as vast as the Saddledome
and as time consuming as infinity. It is the sensible ground between the Oilers and the Canucks, between winning and losing, and it lies between the NHL draft and the summit of Lord Stanley's Cup. This is the dimension of fan discussion. It is in an area we call "The Calgarypuck Zone"
Jim Nill was apparently on the shortlist along with Craig Button 12 years ago too. Amazing that all this time later, he's still yet to hold a GM chair. That being the case, I think it's unlikely he's willing to leave.
Nill, Fenton, Hextall and Neeley are to me the top candidates for any GM opening this summer. I think if you're the Flames you've got to try to talk to them all.
I'm almost positive that Fenton and Hextall would leave to run their own teams, while Neeley and Nill are longshots (yes, I'm aware Neeley came right out and said he doesn't want to leave Boston)... But there is no harm in talking to the both of them--if Stevie Y could be lured from powerhouse-franchise Detroit to franchise-on-life-support Tampa, I'm convinced anything can happen.

It would be nice if this was true, but I simply cannot believe that Jock (I have no hatred for the guy btw) has a source in the Flames organization telling him this - more likely to be his own speculation or wishful thinking. It makes sense in that:
1) there has been no official "crowning" of Feaster
2) Nill certainly has connections to the area
I hope they are talking (or asking permission to talk) to all the people mentioned above (don't know about Neely) - I assume we will learn something within 4 weeks or so...
Cordially as always,
