I'm still betting on them keeping Hiller.

Ramo, probably earned himself a bigger paycheck than the Flames are willing to invest into goaltending. Plus I want to see Ortio and Gillies get a shot in parts of next season.

I like both but I feel exactly the opposite about consistency. Hiller's style, while it may yield the odd soft looking goal, isn't as erratic.

That said, unless Ramo will re-sign for decent money, I think he will be outside looking in. Of course, if he re-signs you need to place Hiller, which might not be that difficult.

If Ramo doesn't sign, I could see him ending up in Oiler country.

Would like to have both but Ortio is likely not passing through waivers.

One of the best things for Calgary this year is that Hiller and Ramo are two totally different goaltenders with different styles. Both are a wash numbers wise, but it's a different look for opposing teams.

Hiller stays deep in his net and is beat with horrifying rebounds, has good 5-hole coverage, good coverage bottom-half of the net, and tough to beat on his catcher side (keep in mind he catches right and left handed shooters love that side as it's the blocker side on most goalies).

Ramo is a bit of a guesser, plays aggressively with an active stick and uses his flexibility/mobility. Is beat on hard, open shots in the slot and mediocre 5-hole coverage.

You need separate game plans against either one which gave Hartley an advantage. Out of the two, Ortio is most like Ramo so I'd rather Hiller stay to keep that advantage... as slight as it is.

I always like Karri Ramo even before Treliving signed Jonas Hiller. I feel more confident when Ramo is playing goal compared to Hiller. I am not saying Hiller is not a good goalie. Both goaltenders did their job and they pushed each other all season. I think Ramo is more athletic. Hiller is lights out when he is being aggressive challenging the shooters. He is not as good when he just sits and waiting for the puck. He also gives up a lot of rebound. He proved this season that he can be awesome and steal games for us. I wouldn't mind to see both goalies back next season but with Ortio needing to clear waiver next season, they might have to let one of them go. I would rather see the Flames signing Ramo again and maybe trade Hiller to Buffalo or to St. Louis.

As a rebuilding team, trade Hiller for assets and re-sign Ramo.

I would keep Ramo.

However I think it's a lot easier to keep Hiller since he's already under contract and let Ramo walk.

If Hiller has developed significant value, you trade him. Ramo is goalie with a much more solid game. Many commenters here prioritize and emphasize things that are not relevant.

I think ramo will be looking to sign as a true #1. Not a 1a/b split.

In my mind it doesn't really matter. Neither is a true #1, neither guy really stole a game this year. To win the Cup we need someone that wins games we have no business winning. Hopefully Ortio is a real #1.

Between Gillies, Ortio and Mac, hopefully one emerges as our Jonathan Quick/Tim Thomas/Corey Crawford etc.

This is a solid point to bring up after an emotional lost. I believe Ramo should be resigned becuase in the last 2 years he has shown up when it really counts. In the last half of the 2013/2014 season when he returned from his injury was just before Berra was traded and they closed out the season and a highnote that carried over this year.

Ramo seems to have really shown he can be a cluch player when called apon late in the season. I think that if he was 100% heathy at the beginning of round 1and not just off an injury that he would have started that series in net.
IMO having a Ramo/Ortio (If he makes the team) gives you a tandam thats more athletic.

It is interesting that both Ramo and Gio came back from Russia with a more complete game.

I believe both have done this feat a few times this year.

No kidding, what a ridiculous thing to say. How many times did the starter get pulled only for the backup to come in and shut the door the rest of the way allowing the team to comeback?

Nov. 8- Hiller replaces Ramo. 26:29 played, 0 GA. Flames comeback from 4-3, win 6-4.
Feb.16- Hiller replaces Ramo. 39:40 played, 0 GA. Flames comeback from 3-0, win 4-3.
March. 8- Hiller replaces Ramo. 37:43 played, 0 GA. Flames comeback from 4-0, lose in SO.

There may be more? How soon people forget.

What about that game against Edmonton where Ramo got hurt and Hiller came in and earned the 4-0 shutout.

And in any case Fredrik Andersen shows that you can win in the playoffs with a crappy goalie if the team in front of you is strong enough.

Really like Ramo. Really want him to stay, too, but I just can't see it. Think we'll stick with Hiller who, up until the end of last season at least, was the 'more established' NHL goaltender. Would love to be wrong though.

Hiller's the better goalie, but I'd rather trade him for assets and keep Ramo. Although I'm fine with either and I won't be angry either way
