They will clear cap space by dumping Eberle and RNH for next to nothing in a trade, which will allow for those massive raises.
The real nightmare keeping Flames brass awake at night is that the Oilers have found a #1 goaltender who can cover up for mistakes in front of him.
MUCH easier said than done. We shall see how both teams fare moving forward. I'm not terribly concerned with how the Flames match up against the luckiest team on earth.

They still need to replace those players...it's not like they can dump them and sign 2/3 of a 2nd line for much cheaper.
I believe.
Just like the last time the Oilers got punted from the playoffs hopefully they reward guys that caught lightning in a bottle this year. In 2005 scrubs like Pisani and Moreau got long term deals which handcuffed the team for those entire terms.
I'm not sure losing Eberle and RNH is much of a hit to depth. They just skate around and around the perimeter until they get winded or scared and go back to the bench.

Horrible coaching. Just ****ing terrible. WTF is Letestu out there, wtf is Lucic out there. It's ****ing idiotic. McLellan is largely a good coach but you see why he couldn't get San Jose over the hump, he rides "his" guys and can't adjust to what's happening in game and who's playing well.

I'm more worried that some idiot GM will actually pay the Oilers something of value for those two.
I keep thinking that the Nucks and Oilers would make a good trade partner.
Eberle/RNH for the Sedins.
The Sedins get one last kick at the cup with the Oilers, and the Oilers get a bonafide second line with $14 million in cap space available in McDavid's bump year.
The Canucks get two still relatively young but flawed offensive top 6 forwards to supplement their existing weak forward core. Maybe a change of scenery would do them good (see Dubnyk, Schultz, Cogliano, Gagner, etc.).
I think this makes a lot of sense for both teams.

It's still 94 regular season points they need to replace regardless of how you feel they play. Its like the Flames having Frolik's and Backlunds point totals removed from the roster and trying to convince fans that the team will be fine with plugs tasked with replacing that offense.
Absolutely disgusting seeing that franchise / fanbase rewarded for a decade of showcasing how to run a business into the ground with record breaking levels of futility and ineptitude.
Oh you ran your business into the ground with in a carnival of terrible decision making? No problem, here's a generational player. Enjoy.
Puke.
And all those car flags and jerseys. Where were they the last ten years? Most fair-weather fan-base of all time.
Hopefully the cap bites them and they spend the next few years spinning their wheels until McDavid bolts.
Now, on to Nashville / Pittsburgh leaving Kesler / Burrows in tears.

Oilers have 2 great pieces at forward (Mcdavid Draisaitl) rest is garbage. Maybe Puljajarvi turns good. Defense its basically only Larsson and Klefbom and Sekera. Nurse is attrocious. Unless they can get a whole new second line next year i see them taking a step back as teams will be more tough on them now.

It's really amazing that the high draft players from the 2009-13 era are all just hot garbage - Eberle, Hall (gone), Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov (gone), Nurse.
quickly just checked the board, prepared for the worst, and instead, I find it was only the second worst result possible.
could never actively cheer for either team, but at least the Ducks earned it by building their club up through the draft...
much better than being a lottery team for 10 years and constantly rolling the dice in the hopes of landing a franchise player...
mind boggling that a year after drafting McDavid, they still managed to get the #3 pick overall?!? sure, he was injured but really?! Still that ####ty you can't pull yourself out of the toilet after all the unbelievable luck and talent you've had the chance to get?
I grudgingly respected the 2007 SCF squad... but could never respect this current Oilers team...
