This has the second dumbest 'Canadian' thing next to faux nationalism over a coffee brand. If the BBC ran a news clip about how Man U fans should rally behind Liverpool because it's very disheartening people from London aren't cheering for a London team the station would be burned to the ground. Yet for some reason in this country we can't seem to figure out why people wouldn't cheer for a fataing rival.
I'm sure Boston cheers for Montreal in the playoffs when they're out because it's very disheartening that they'd cheer for a not from the East.
It' a league made up of cities, not countries. There's no national pride about it.
I'd cheer for Borussia Monchengladbach before I'd cheer for Scum Utd

On the topic of Oilers fans singing the American anthem, did it actually go viral? There's a couple clips of American stations mentioning it at the end of their broadcasts, but usually when something goes viral there's a youtube clip with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of views.
Unless I'm missing a clip, the biggest video is that Flamesnation account with like 90k views. To put it in perspective when the Leafs fans singing it at the ACC went viral it got nearly 7 million views.
And not to take way from how great it was that Oilers fans knew all the words and sang it loud, but as I was searching these videos I found something interesting for those that believe it was one of the all to common staged viral moments that make up like 90% of viral videos.
I saw Nashville "paying it back" to Leafs fans in a planned effort and kind of laughed when they welcomed "Canadian country star Brett Kissel" to sing the "heart warming" effort. As soon as I heard Brett Kissel announced in the video I was like "Oh yeah, the Edmonton one was planned".
Either way, Oilers fans still sung it without the words so the best part wasn't staged.
Oiler fans were taking a lot of glee in Calgary's reffing problems and got on their moral high horse about the complaints.
So F-em, I hope that this series is decided on the ultimate screw job where the Ref heel turns McDavid and wiffles him with a chair and then pulls on a Anaheim Jersey.

Well sure, he'll play games but as far as his impact in the NHL anyone who's seen him play in the AHL this season would agree that his trajectory is a lot closer to Pavel Brendl or Nail Yakupov than it is to Patrik Laine.
