I am a big proponent of the "CIRCUS CANON" technique of helping people travel long distances across a city.... without a time delay.

Mine went up 10%, which was not unexpected after I figured out how much my octogenarian former neighbour's house sold for in the summer... Hard to believe how much people pay for 65-year-old fixer-uppers on the edge of "the inner city".
Up from $725k to $825k in Rosscarrock.

This gets me thinking about how the city assessment system actually works. If there are few or no transactions in your neighbourhood, does the price of a home move that much? It seems like a number of us have had the experience of the city rocketing the value when we purchase because the price is adjusted after that transaction…which implies to me that they’re not pricing appropriately for years?

It’s the continuation of the two PACs that run city council now. Every councillor who was elected was funded by either the right or left PACs. This is just the start of the right’s campaign for council complete with catchy nickname.

I do hope Gondek doesn’t run again.

The PACs are awful and I hate that a good chunk of voters are incapable of actually doing any research and forming a voting opinion on their own and within their best interest. Instead they just to who the PAC tells them to vote for or they vote blindly for their team or they get swept up in the movements like ABC to vote strategically against a person or party.

I'm not convinced we would get good government if people voted genuinely and somewhat educated but I do blame the #### government we have seen recently on poor voting behavior and habits.

I think the problem at the civic level is just money. It’s very cheap to buy city elections since budgets are low and small amounts of extra money produce large changes in visibility.

So even if you try to get informed you end up having to choose between one of the top 2.

I think Wenzel said like 150-200k to unseat a top candidate on those tapes. So out of the realm of the individual but easy for Industry groups and Unions to raise the funds.

Apparently, between roughly $14,000 to $822,000, depending on how spicy you are feeling.

Cost to unseat a community newsletter team and create angst amongst the community: priceless.

That issue of the newsletter was pretty crazy. I had no idea any of it was happening, but I do always read the newsletter. So the cover with the signs superimposed just looked so weird. I flipped it open and the letters/columns from the ex-board were just throughout the newsletter. It was just weird and surprising, but also hilarious. It felt like the new board wasn’t aware that they had this one last submission to the newsletter and they managed to sneak this in at the deadline to get some parting shots in.

Something very similar happened in my community, Banff trail, a few years ago. A group of nimbys showed up to overwhelm the usually quiet community association election to drive their single issue - anti development. The issue has since been resolved in my community but it took a while to remove these butt heads and get back to the mandate of nice family events. For some reason, these nimbys have convinced themselves that the community association has some power to stop development. They do not.

Rio-Can should scrap their own plans and instead go with the community association’s idea of recreating the Kowloon Walled City. That’s the kind of density that will move the housing needle!

I was thinking that I was even more in favour of the community assocation's render.

My favourite part is how this will somehow lead to every lane of traffic in all directions being completely full.

They put out #### like this and wonder why no one takes them seriously.

That’s exactly my issue. I’m against the development, but not just completely ignorant. I felt like the campaign as parkland was disingenuous. No one is lounging around there, or bird watching on playing frisbee on those pieces of land.

But those renderings are just over the top. I just don’t think that kind of thing is necessary because there are other obvious concerns.
