Visit the Dome and watch the Flames. A must according to CNN Travel
Browsing CNN.com tonight and found a nice shout out for the Flames in the travel section.. 30 things travelers should before turning 30.
8. Watch a game in a famous stadium
See the Sox at Fenway in Boston, Major League Baseball's oldest stadium (b. 1912). FC Barcelona at Camp Nou, Europe's largest stadium (99,354 people). The Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome, western Canada's greatest homage to hockey and giant saddles.

The one thing those stadiums have in common are that they are all dumps...odd choices.

Like it or not, the Saddledome is unique. I'll be sad when it goes.
A lot of the new arenas kind of blend together to me. I'm sure the Flames new barn will be some glass / steel combo. Nicer, but generic.

Why should I listen to where the FAKE NEWS media tells me to go?

Nice to see Calgary getting some love but looking at famous stadiums and comparing Fenway, Camp Nou, and the Dome, one of these things is not like the other...
That said the Dome does feature unique architecture with a great atmosphere and a visit should be near the top of the list for any hockey fan.

Calgary mentioned twice in that article.
WORLD CLASS, BABY!!
But honestly, it's a decent list but why it had to be framed as things you need to do before 30, I have no idea. You could spend a lifetime trying to do all of that.

I've done 10 of those things, but three or four of them only because they're pretty easy to do specifically as a local. So I failed at being under 30 when I was under 30, I guess.

It's interesting that the local things on the list that you take for granted. Climb a mountain, see a Grizzly Bear. I did that this weekend. We take so much for granted that is right around us.
We even want to bulldoze the Saddledome
Also driving through Saskatchewan is a unique experience that very few places in the world have empty flat fertile plains.

My guess is the Saddledome's inclusion was the product of a lazy writer at CNN.
"Hey Steve! What's the oldest arena in the NHL?"
"Uhh, Calgary, I think."
"Well if its the oldest, it has to have charm, right?"
Then again, the only reason why Wrigley Field has charm is because it is old too.

Can't argue with that I love going to the Saddledome. I would recommend it to anyone.

The Saddledome crippled itself for longevity with its design, as acoustic shortcomings are reasons why major acts skip the city now. Probably one of the reasons why a new arena is a priority in addition to the Saddledome's age.
Of course, one would probably not know this in 1984, so no one can really be blamed.
Any new arena going forward needs to have both form and function, with versatility/expandability in use going forward in mind.

Fenway is amazing.
I've been in the Pirates brand new stadium and it honestly does not hold a candle to Fenway (and I absolutely despise the Red Sox).

I have never minded the saddledome. Its old but you never get that decrepit feeling you got when you visit other old stadiums. I also remember the first time I ever went to it (I was 11 or 12 and got to play during a flames intermission on the ice, there was also a streaker that game) and I was mesmerized by the design.
There will always be something to be said about people who build buildings that don't fit the norm. I appreciate the designs even if I don't like some of them.

Have you been to Wrigley Field? Over the the last year they have made massive renovations and you get to see the Cubs play. Strange thing to say but I would fathom a guess that you are not a baseball fan.

I attended a Smashing Pumpkins concert in the dome back in the 90s. I lost a good chunk of hearing in my left ear in spite of the "acoustic shortcomings". The Pumpkins seemed to have no problem pumping out ridiculous levels of sound. I think that problem is a little bit overblown.
IIRC, it has more to do with staging and lighting than acoustics, but then I'm not an engineer.

Yeah it's something about the roof not being able to support the weight of these massive stage setups that all the big acts are using these days.

Haha, what? Acoustics aren't the ability to get noise out loudly, it's the dispersal and quality of the sound, which the Saddledome performs very poorly at compared to the typical hockey arena.

Can't hang the giant lighting rigs from the center of the building, notably in winter. That's (one of) the issue(s). Concerts have gotten bigger and fancier, and heavier it would seem.
