According to this study, men need 2 drinking nights a week to stay healthy.
Honestly though defining someone who has 5 drinks once a week as having a drinking disorder reeks of Puritanism. The neighborhood pub isn't a new phenomena and society is hardly reaching some new level of alcoholism. People are probably drinking more because they are less likely to have kids or get married now.

I drink more because I have kids.

Western Europeans drink more than we do yet they are in much better health on average. I have a feeling it's not the booze causing our public health woes, it's likely the fact that more and more people are becoming fat slobs.

We are (barely) not as fat as the Americans but that doesn't mean we don't have a problem with obesity. Pointing a finger and saying "hey, at least we aren't as bad as them" does not make a problem go away.
Otherwise you can point at a picture of Hitler and be happy with Trump as president of the USA.
But yes, being fat slobs does not help either. So I agree and disagree at the same time.

I always like to compare myself to Polynesian countries when it comes to obesity comparisons.

A pint of Guinness has less calories that a pint of OJ.

Per 100 Grams. A Big Mac has 560 total calories. Would you rather have one Big Mac or 4 Molson Canadians?

I think most beers (5% beer is 215 calories) have less calories than a pint of OJ (220 cal.). Who drinks that much OJ?
BTW a Guiness has 208 calories so not that much less.

There has been an upswing in drinking in Canada in the last 10 years or so (though not to the levels of the 80s), but it's mainly down to women narrowing the gender gap in consumption.

My random table I just pulled from the internet lists it as a low calories beer.
That's good enough for me!

Who did the study? Who financed the study?

If your drinking mouth wash to get drunk you have a problem. Or if your starting to hide booze you have a problem. Also if you are an angry drunk you probably shouldn't drink.

Also particularly concerning is that when we are seeing more young women (age 10-19) being hospitalized for alcohol related reasons.
Hospitalization rates are higher in the West than the East (but nothing as high as up North). Edmonton statistically faring better than Calgary as well for this indicator.

I'm not sure about this study, it really seems too simplified.
I get what they're saying, if at least once a week your drinking 5 or 6 drinks in a setting, which would probably put someone over the legal limit, but also leave them at least slightly inebriated then maybe you could say its a starting point.
But isn't it more complex then that? In the summer season for example everyone drinks more, we go to BBQs or football games or just hang out in the back yard with our buddies after building a barn and have some drinks.
I think that this study though is a bit empty without looking at other things.
Are you drinking alone? Because if once a week, your guzzling beer or a a half bottle of whisky because of life stress or work stress or whatever, then we could be talking about a disorder or someone being on the road to a disorder.
Are you going to the neighbourhood bar by yourself to have 5 or 5 drinks? That might be a symptom of something, maybe more on the mental side but its something worth looking at.
Why are you drinking? Why are you at least buzzing once a week?
Is it effecting other aspects of your life. If your doing it once a week even if a significant other is say that maybe you should back off this week from doing it, then you might have a disorder.
But just saying, hey if you drink 5 beers in a setting once a week you have a disorder isn't a good study.
However I wouldn't be surprised at all, if drinking is up, especially in Ontario and Alberta for example where we've gone through some economic extremes and have lots of people who still aren't working and have time and self loathing on their hands.
