Saad plays a heavy game. He's what the Hawks were missing this spring.

Panarin was soft in the playoffs.

I don't think Chicago liked where that kind of play was taking them.

Is he?

Panarin has 151 points in his last two seasons.

Saad has 106 points in the last two seasons.

Saad is a better defensive player but ~20 points a season is a big gap.

I guess that means it's an even trade
I read most being shocked that Panarin is being moved and only one person thinking Saad is better. I don't think it's close to even when looking at this trade as straight up (which it won't be).

Apparently Chicago is also getting a goalie out of the deal.

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Belief is Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane let it be known to #Hawks how much they missed Saad. They loved him.

Jackets get Chicago's sixth-round pick this weekend and Hawks get 5th-rounder in 2018; that's the pick swap in the deal

Yes, he is. Leetching points off of Kane is great and all, but there is more to the game than scoring points. Saad has many more dimensions to his game and plays the type of hockey that wins you games in the playoffs. Chicago is a much greater threat now than they were four hours ago.

So they were sad when he left the first time?

I don't understand this move from a Blue Jackets perspective. Finally have a successful season, have a young talent locked up for 4 years but decide to move him. There's just a ton of risk that Panarin benefited greatly from playing with Kane. It smells of cheap ownership not wanting to pay a player.
