Probably the best example is Red Kelly, who was outstanding at both defense and centre - I think he even won a Norris trophy before being moved to centre. Brent Burns is also a good modern example. For the Flames, probably the most successful example was Paul Reinhart, who was often moved from defense to centre during playoffs.

Stockton Heat @AHLHeat
Announcement: Stockton has mutually agreed to release Matt Bailey from his AHL contract.

Not a big loss, was getting 3rd line duties here and there depending on injuries.

Federov is another example.

Stockton takes the ice in 45 minutes after what seems like an eternal break.

They're in Charlotte playing Carolina's affiliate. Stockton is 2-0 all time against Charlotte. Hopefully this can be the start of a season-saving turnaround because the Heat have been terrible for the last month or so and now find themselves 5th in their division after fighting for 1st for most of the year. The Heat are 1 for 40 on the PP since the turn of the calendar, so they'll have to work on fixing that if they want to improve.

Beauty goal by Janko, Tkachuk-esque

1-0, Gillies the main reason why though

2-1 bad guys, end of the 2nd. It was all Stockton for the first half of the 2nd but Charlotte turned up their effort and got some big saves from Leighton.

Gillies gets run, and Klimchuk and Shinkaruk both get hobbled blocking shots. Oh and it's 3-1. Rough third.

3-1 final.

Holy god the Heat have fallen apart down the stretch. Hopefully Huska gets fired. That kind of collapse is unacceptable

I live in Charlotte and just got back from seeing the Heat; thought I'd share my thoughts:
  • Janko was by far the best player on the ice for both teams. Great hands and great vision. Decent backchecker and beauty goal, too.
  • Klimchuk and Shinkaruk were both decent, might be an affect of playing on Janko's line, though.
  • Kylington was fantastic on the powerplay, pretty unnoticeable other than that.
  • Gillies looked good on close-in shots, not so good on shots from the point.
  • Poirier was absolutely brutal. Turnover machine. It looked like he's disinterested.
  • Lomberg wasn't the little ball of hate I'd hope he'd be.
  • Bollig was pretty useless. Seemed like he was just floating out there. After hearing Oliwa on the Fan this morning, it makes me wonder what Bollig thinks his role on this team is.
  • Pribyl got himself into good position a few times, but didn't know what to do with the puck when it was on his stick.
  • Overall, I'd say the Heat's D was pretty bad. Not too many positives from this game (fwiw, Andersson didn't play).
  • Oh, and zero reaction from the players after Gillies was run and after the Checkers put the puck into the empty net.

They have to do something about this situation. Guys known for their offensive skills disappear once they arrive in Stockton. What's going on down there?

Emile Poirier's numbers have gotten worse not better. His first season in the AHL he scored .76 PPG and has scored .46 PPG since.

Sven Baertschi was a .66 PPG player for Huska and was a 1.00 PPG player as soon as he went to Utica.

Kenny Agostino had .75 PPG in Stockton, .88 PPG in Chicago.

It seems to me that offensive players don't elevate their games in Stockton. I'm aware some of these stats are cherry picked and the differences are marginal in some cases but I'd like to see more development from these offensive players in our system.

Stockton plays a back to back today in Charlotte again. Unfortunately I completely forgot about it but lol I didn't miss much.

It's 2-0 with 10 minutes left in the third. Stockton getting doubled up in shots. This friggin team.

Stockton is now 0-7-1 in their last 8 and have won only one game in their last 12 and only 3 of their past 19. Oh and they're also 2nd last in the division now.
