Was going to post something, but my look after clicking is the same as TJ's in that picture, and therefore...ummm...I'm going back to look at that picture.

Seems like every 30ish age player that signs a contract these days gets too much term.

GM's must be counting on compliance buyouts after the next lockout.

Come on, calling a guy on your team a bum because he didn't live up to expectation is a little harsh.

Or certain medical conditions, player crossing the border with controlled substances, etc.

Not sure about that. Recent rumors have him looking for 6 years at 7mil and he's going to turn 31 in a couple weeks. The NHL seems like a league that will look the other way if you LTIR one of the 'good guys' at the end of their career but I'm not so sure they would put Radulov in that category.

Pronger can't play: give him a front office job while he's still employed.
Datsyuk can play but want's to do a retirement tour at home: LTIR despite the face that he put up .77ppg in the KHL.
Hossa can maybe play... Will likely be traded to Arizona or Carolina but won't retire.

Oshie is going to fit into that group. At 36 or so he'll develop a rash, or back spasms or some such. Radulov isn't one of the good guys. He likely won't get swept under the rug. I would be surprised if he gets a 35+ contract.

GM's are learning the NHL doesn't actually give a crap about about the salary cap or long term deals as long as you can magically come up with a suspicious injury or "conduct detrimental to the team" in those last few years.

Brouwer is a bum because of his lack of compete. He was invisible for the final 70 games and it sucks knowing he is capable of playing better but decided to coast through the season after getting his pay day.
