So, you'll never suggest that any team got the better of another in a trade, because the trade proves that the market values were equal?

That production does not equate to winning anything other than being a marginal playoff team.

At a $6.5M cap hit for 5 more years, I don't call that a valuable package.

And I think that is where we'll have to agree to disagree.
Just a pet peeve of mine, but I think you lose credibility when you can't even spell his name correctly... It's STEPAN.

I think it's a fair deal for both sides. As posted earlier, there is no guarantee that number 7 overall in a weaker draft will ever be as good as a player like Stepan.

It's Stepan BTW, not Stephan.

If you think Stepan = Stajan I'm not sure what else to say. Pretty clear he's better than Stajan has ever been. And the Rangers with him have experienced a lot more success with him playing a major role than the Flames did with Stajan playing a major role.

ARI may never be a cap team so Stepan being overpaid by a 1-1.5 million doesn't really hurt them as much as it would other teams.

They don't need Stepan to be a #1 centre for that entire contract, he isn't really a true #1 centre. Their #1 centre is likely to be one of Dvorak or Dylan Strome within 2 years. And those kids will likely be modestly paid for a good chunk of Stepan's contract thus making his salary not a huge issue. Stepan is a nice compliment to the high skill of their young centres Dvorak, Strome and Keller.

Stepan makes sense for ARI, helps shelter those kids early in their career, be a role model, provide leadership. ARI can afford to have him overpaid.

Am I not making some sense here?

No what I'm saying is that you thinking you know Stepan's value better than what he just moved for is arrogance considering you're likely not even employed in NHL.

Coyotes will be a more exciting team this season with all the young talent they have. Tippett is no longer coaching the team so we will see a more open game and not those boring trap game.

There is lots to like but he's lumping him in with goalies who play way more minutes against tougher competition behind lesser teams.

You read that tweet without context or basic NHL knowledge and you'd think the Yotes just added a top 5 NHL starting goalie. What they did get was a solid backup with lots to prove.

I think Raanta's gonna get right lit in Phoenix.

I don't think his stats will transfer to starter. Of course I have very little to go on, but see Enroth from a couple seasons ago...
