Well that sucks. Are they hurting for cash, or just grabbing in every spot they can?

Not to mention a gong-show of cars trying to do pickups outside the doors.

Anyone willing to be the face of a social media trek to reverse this?
I have no understanding of their finances, but I am 100% against this!

The airport advertises their shops as a destination yet this move is probably going to deter people who bought a coffee or pint while waiting.

What a crappy new policy. 30 minutes was perfect if you're just going to pick someone up. Now, I'm not going to buy a coffee or anything when there, I'll just wait at the front door in my car and time it so that the person arriving walks out the door at exactly that time.
It's not like the airport needs more money, trust me.

Not that big of a deal, still the same amount of time validating the free ticket as paying $3 for 1/2 an hour.
I think paying for parking at the hospital is way worse than paying at the airport.

Agreed. I always enjoyed the challenge of getting to exit before the free 30 minutes ran out. It was such a good feeling when that machine would read "AU REVOIR!" instead of asking for payment.
I wonder if they have considered the impact on the cell phone lot and the traffic on the arrivals/departures levels. While it is "just" $3, it is amazing the lengths that people will go to avoid paying for parking.

It's going to have a negative effect to be sure. The cell lot is small enough as it is (plus poorly located IMHO), now it's going to be a #### show.

That's alright, everyone will then double-park, triple-park by the doors.

No way they would get rid of that, it would be chaos with everyone circling. Maybe they'll start charging for that too though....

Basically the only good thing calgary international had going for it, they had to ruin.
Somehow I'm not shocked.

YYC gets rid of 30min parking
Gone are the days of perfectly timing an airport pickup or drop off to avoid paying for parking at the Calgary International Airport.
As of today, the airport is no longer offering free parking for the first 30 minutes. It will now cost $3.
For people waiting to pick up travellers, it's still possible do so without paying. You can wait in the nearby cell phone lot until your guest has arrived, then drive to the arrivals area.
Anyone who wants to park and go inside the airport, however, will now have to pay.
