Other people didn't take over buildings and have press conferences about doing it.

The proper term is sedition.

If it's not terrorism then it's mighty close. Eventually the Feds will have to take back the compound and if one of these idiots even points a gun in the general direction of the guys that have to do that then it's not even debatable it just flat out is.
This can easily be classified as domestic terrorism. The fact the people are using a lack of body count to differentiate this and terrorism just tells you how skewed our views on terrorism, and it as a tactic, have become. If this building were taken over by armed Mexicans or Middle Easterners there would be screams to go in and take them out, labeling them the terrorists they are. Civil disobedience never came at the end of a gun.

Rubbish, sit ins are a perfectly appropriate form of non violent protest.
Less common than it used to be but utterly part of the cannon of civil disobedience

Because you so often hear non violent protesters at sit ins say things like "we will only shoot people if they shoot at us first"

Sure, I think it's terrorism in a broad laymans definition of the term... a bunch of politically motivaterd citizens armed with guns have illegally seized government buildings and have indicated that they are willing to use force... sounds like terrorism to me.

There is a legal definition of the term, so the question is are they legally terrorists? There were three characteristics given to that definition and they easily fit into two of them the only question is on the "Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law". They're certainly violating federal and/or state laws, but are they "acts dangerous to human life"? That I don't know... but eventually they'll be either have to vacate the premises or be forcably removed and if they have to be forcably removed then it's pretty much impossible to say that it won't be dangerous to human life.

I'm not arguing they're ideal candidates for the Nobel peace prize, but it's the U.S., guns are legal down there and stupidity is a legitimate political position.

That's a great line, I'm definitely going to have to steal that in the future.

I think it's just a cool kid thing to call this terrorism. I'm pretty sure I won't be cancelling my climbing trip to Bend this summer.

I guess if you want to call these dummies terrorists you could. But the act they are performing now certainly isn't. Errorism maybe. But not terrorism.

I keep picturing the leader of Y'all Qaeda as Hedley Lamarr from Blazing Saddles.

"I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, ####-kickers and Methodists."
