Did I handle this road rage incident the right away?
So I was driving home from work, a car in the right lane was behind a bus, turned on his signal light to merge. I was probably almost side by side with him so I sped up assuming he would just merge behind me.
He then tailgated me and cut me off multiple times (twice) within the next 500 meters. He then stopped his car mid traffic (not even at a light) and got out. He approached my vehicle and started yelling and screaming at me. At this point I really did not have anywhere to go since traffic was in the lane beside me and he had blocked all traffic infront of me. I avoided eye contact, made a mental note of his plate and after about 20 seconds he got back in his car. I went in the other lane and again he cut me off and continued to drive at about 30KM posted speed is 60KM, probably hoping that I would over take him and he could cut me off again. At the next red light he suddenly turned right and off he went.
I phoned the non emergency police line, explained the situation, gave them his plate number and filed a police report. They told me someone may or may not contact me.
How do you think I handled the situation? Would you have done anything differently?
Cheers,
Bluck

Probably the best way you could have handled it.

It's him that has the issue, not you. Should be fine

I think that's more of a 911 call.
And if you were already at all beside him (even a bit), I don't see why he's pissed off that you sped up instead of slowing down.
And for the record, it wasn't me, so save the jokes!

I would have been tempted to run him over.
You handled it better than I would have.

I recently had a guy pull the same thing to me on Country Hills. He actually tried to get my wife and I to rear end his POS car on two separate occasions ( cut us off than slammed the breaks on).
I wish I had done what you did. I regret not calling the police. Would have been well worth it to take the time if it meant charges were pressed against him.

Staying insode your vehicle was the right thing to do. Chances are a fist fight would have ensued had you confronted him.
Reporting his license plate will probably end up with a member of the CPS showing up at his door for a little conversation and a warning.

I'm not going to say who was in the right and who was in the wrong, but I think we can all agree that this situation would certainly have been improved had both parties been armed.

I think you handled it pretty well. It also would have been a good idea to drive to the nearest police station which will immediately get a road rager to stop following you.
Also, road rage should be re-named MMS: Mad Max Syndrome.

Should have fought him to maintain your honor, even to the death if required. You bring much shame to the family.

That guy is a bozo and this will catch up to him.
A couple points though - If you can see the signal light of someone in a merge lane, you let them merge (unless there are a few other variables). Or were they in a lane and they were changing into your lane? That is not merging.
As well, were you slowing this guy down in the left lane? If so, I suggest as well that you stay out of the left lane as much as possible.
I am not excusing that guy, but both scenarios can upset other drivers.

He was in the right lane and changing into mine (it wasnt a merge lane) like I said we were almost side by side so either I slam my breaks and let him merge infront of me or I speed up and he can slow down and go behind me. His ego obviously was offended and he wanted to go infront of me.
I wasn't slowing anyone down in the left lane - Maintaining pace with current traffic if not 5-10 over the posted limit

Not trying to be a dick, but I always find it questionable when someone says someone goes off the deep end for something so trivial like not letting someone in who stuck behind a bus. So I always think there is more to it then that.

The word 'merge' describes a very specific action, which is not what you are describing.

People that don't understand merging, what the left lane is for, or the 'zipper' are extremely annoying on the road, and slow everyone down.
How long have you been driving for?

Change Lanes - is that more specific for you? Go read my OP and if you still don't understand what I was "trying" to say then in my opinion you're just a lost cause who's trying to be a dick by asking me how long I've been driving for.
