Yeah, I mean exactly that. Exactly what Presidential candidates do during debates. Kevin Spacey nailed the private and public persona of Underwood perfectly.
Yeah agreed. Just thought you framed it as a good thing, when it's something that really bothered me (and does so with real politicians, obviously).
Spoiler!
I like how the show mimics (and sometimes almost parodies) real life politics and politicians. Dunbar reflecting an Elizabeth Warren-type candidate. When she welcomed Sharpe's support but offered her nothing in return, I wanted to run and cast a vote for her. It's why I thought the diary thing was kind of dumb and unneccesary, just from a story standpoint. I think she would have been a much better foil to Underwood is she had stayed the course that way and maybe they ended the season on a cliffhanger for who won the caucus. They could even have Netflix users vote for each candidate and build the next season off the results. That might be kind of cool.
Just think they missed a good opportunity for an interesting character by corrupting her that early. Especially when the deal ended up bunk anyways.

The overall theme of House of Cards is that power corrupts.
When presented with an opportunity to be president of the united states, even a hardened, justice oriented person with a sterling reputation and character can be corrupted.
Dunbar had money, but wanted power. In the end, she was willing to do just about anything she needed to to get it, including something as reprehensible as holding another woman's abortion as political leverage.
^^^ Yeah agreed, just thought it didn't have to happen so quickly. That whole race could have been pulled out longer IMO. It all came to the conclusion so fast. I would have liked so may see them focus a little more on him trying to get things done as POTUS and then maybe save the whole race for an entire season.
Kevin Spacey is the greatest thing about this show. Damn is he good!
Finished the show tonight. I don't really get the criticisms I've read: the new characters brought much to the show, and the writing was just as solid as the last two seasons.
Netflix releases all the episodes at once, but no one is forcing you to watch them all in a week. The pace the up to you, watch one weekly every Sunday night if you want.

To me this a classic 3rd season of any show. You spend the first two gearing up for the big reveal and when you get it - it kind of disappoints.
That said, I thought it was awesome. Next season will be an absolute doozy, and I suspect the end of the series. This season is all a setup for the next.

Thanks for the tip!
I didn't specify, but I was actually referring to comments upthread about the minefield of online discussion--and in real life, mind--where you don't know where anyone sits with regard to spoilers.
Some people had gone through the entire third season last Saturday, some are still on episode 27.
At least with weekly episodes, there's an expectation that anyone keeping up with the show is keeping up at the same pace, or at east close.

You do realize that Iowa was just the first of many primary contests and doesn't guarantee who will win the nomination. The last two Republicans to win Iowa didn't win their party's nomination
There will be plenty more of Dunbar vs. Underwood for next season

First season was about inner fighting and dirty politics, something they know and have a lot of inside information about; and it was the best season so far by a mile. Second season was a stretch. Third season, I thought, was really crappy. Anything related to Russians and Petroff was outright "Red Heat" writing quality from the cold war era. Nothing even remotely believable. Disappointment. They shouls stick to US politics only. There's plenty of good material there.

No one has suggested it, but does anyone else see Frank offering the VP spot to Claire in order keep her around? An impossible scenario in reality obviously, but I could see it happening in the 4th season.
Although Rachel somehow still being alive might become a little 24ish, I could see the producers of the show mulling over the idea- Doug somehow faked her death to appease Frank. I hope not- it was a dull story line, as was the Gavin character.
Anyway, I was struggling towards the end of the 3rd season, although I thought the first several episodes were very good. I watched the entire show in the span of a month, so I might just be a little tired out by the show for now.
Oh, I can't stand Jackie Sharp.

Me too. Didn't like her and didn't find Molly Parker's acting believable, unless she intended to portray her character as unlikable.
Watched three seasons and couldn't get rid of the feeling that I've seen this actress somewhere else before. Never bothered to check though, didn't care that much, I suppose. Until re-watching "Men with Brooms" last night, where she plays Amy, the alcoholic ex-girlfriend that sleeps around. Much younger, still not too likeable though.

I actually got the feeling that Claire may try and run against Frank. She's extremely popular and when she was campaigning for Francis didn't that one woman mention that she'd vote for Claire if she were running? I think that got the wheels turning.

She dead. They showed her head being covered with dirt.

Yep, I saw that. I'm just saying that tv producers can always come up with crazy plot twists. Ie. Stamper faking her death so that Underwood would be satisfied and put the entire Rachel thing to bed.
Anyway, all that said, I am guessing that she is gone for good and producers won't go down this road. Crazy things can happen though- I'm guessing many people spent a year following season 2 thinking Stamper was dead.
That's what makes it a good show though Flabbibulin, there aren't 'crazy twists' that are thrown in, everything is believable within the context of the rules the show has created for itself.
