Post tabs, youtube lessons, chords etc. Videos of the actual songs. Comments and anecdotes.
Neat trick - at home I can view tabs and youtubes through my TV with Wii internet connection.
Also, if you are away for a period of time, you can send me a list of 3-5 picks and I will draft for you.
If anyone picks a song by the Rolling Stones I will hunt you down and kill you. I would rather play a song by Linken Park than the Rolling Oldies. Please, that is my only request.
Here goes... In the spirit of the draft ill Take Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here as it is one i learned using the tutorial method. Probably one of the more popular songs i will pick. Its likely more than one of you already know how to play it, regardless its an easy song to pick up and suitable for any skill level. Even if you are a beginner it should not be completely beyond you, and in fact it will certainly expand your abilities.

One side note, when fretting the C chord make sure you add the G on the low E string

If anyone needs a backing track for this song send me a PM with an address. It's roughly 13mb's in size. If anyone could host it that would be easier?
another version from the David Gilmour In Concert recording
also note in the video, roughly at 1:43 with a A chord, David does this throughout the song during the various chords. Use your ears and you should be able to pick it up rather quickly
Example from the video at 1:43

My first pick is pretty much my favorite song to play. It's easy as can be (which is all I can handle anyways haha) and the words aren't hard to remember so it's fun to sing when you're having a little social gathering. Plus it seems to be a bit of a panty peeler which is an added bonus.
Originally a lyric written by the great Bob Dylan, I'd like to pick Wagon Wheel (by Old Crow Medicine Show) as covered by Against Me!
It's basically just G D Em C G D C. Hella easy but I still love it.
Tuning: Standard
Capo on 2

Man, this was a great idea. Half the reason I don't learn a whole lot of songs is simply due to being too lazy to come up with songs that are fun to learn.
I'm going to come up with some really good songs, just you wait.
I learned this song about 20 years ago from a guitar magazine. Kerry Livgren was practicing "Travis" finger picking, and the song developed from there. This is a good song to learn Travis picking, and a good way to warm-up. It is hard for me to play it cleanly at full-speed - you would have to practice it a lot for your fingers to get used to the motion. The left hand pattern is easy, but the picking takes practice.
The single “Dust in the Wind” was released by the rock band Kansas on their album “Point of no Return”, in 1977. Later, Kansas also released a live version of the song on their album entitled “Two for the Show”.
The song will not be too hard for the beginner who has spent some time learning Travis picking. For those that are not familiar with Travis picking, some practice will be required (don’t give up).
I have managed to find a backing track for the song, which is included at the end of this post, along with a PDF chord chart. Any time spent mastering this song, in my opinion, is time well spent. A great song to add to your repertoire - have fun!
Travis picking, is a pattern of alternating bass fingerpicking. Paul Simon makes extensive use of the Travis picking pattern in many of his songs.
An easy way to remember and think about this pattern is that it is:
(1) "Pinch" the outer two strings of the chord with the thumb and middle finger.
(2) Sequentially pluck the INNER two strings of the chord with the thumb and forefinger.
(3) Sequentially pluck the OUTER two strings of the chord with the thumb and middle finger.
(4) Again sequentially pluck the INNER two strings of the chord with the thumb and forefinger.
