Cecil the Lion killed by American poacher
A sad bump for a this idiot who deserves to be eaten by a pride of Lions.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...n-dentist.html
Quote:
Cecil the lion – the most famous creature in one of Zimbabwe's national parks – was killed by an American hunter who has boasted about shooting a menagerie of animals with his bow and arrow, The Telegraph can reveal.
Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, is believed to have paid £35,000 to shoot and kill the much-loved lion with a bow and arrow. The animal was shot on July 1 in Hwange National Park. Two independent sources have confirmed the hunter's identity to the paper, which has also seen a copy of the relevant hunting permit.
|
Quote:
“What he’ll tell you is that he had the proper legal permits and he had hired several professional guides, so he’s not denying that he may be the person who shot this lion. He is a big-game hunter; he hunts the world over.”
During the hunt – which the organisers later admitted was badly carried out – it was alleged that Cecil was lured at night about half a mile out of the national park using bait, and then shot with a bow and arrow. The next day he was found wounded by the hunters and killed, before being beheaded and skinned.
Animals cannot be killed within the confines of the park. The hunters then removed his collar – further contravening park rules.
|
Quote:
"All persons implicated in this case are due to appear in court facing poaching charges.
"Both the professional hunter and land owner had no permit or quota to justify the offtake of the lion and therefore are liable for the illegal hunt."
Mr Bronkhorst, who will appear at Hwange magistrates court on Wednesday, said he was unaware of Cecil's fame.
"It was a magnificent, mature lion. We did not know it was well-known lion. I had a licence for my client to shoot a lion with a bow and arrow in the area where it was shot," he said.

It's disgusting.
After spending a few weeks in SA and doing a 4 day safari I couldn't imagine ever even thinking of killing one of these animals. They are beautiful. I don't understand what pride this guy gets from killing a cat that lays around 20 hours a day. Congrats, you likely killed a lion while he was sleeping....what a rush that must of been.

They lured him out of the wildlife reserve with food. Canned hunt. Deplorable.

First world countries need to make it illegal for their citizens to engage in such behavior. Another wealthy scumbag paying thieves to legitimize his poaching. According to his local paper he was also convicted of poaching a bear a few years ago.

I heard an interview with a conservationist from SA on the radio last night about this. Dude was almost in tears talking about the lion.
"It's just rich people with too much time and money. Their bored and have an ego to stroke, so they think a lion head would look great in their house. It's disgusting and sad." (paraphrase)
He implied pretty implicitly that these safaris constantly curtail the law to meet the demands of hunters. Made it seem like there's pretty much no legitimate way to do this, and shouldn't be.

I read that they found the lion injured 40 hours after he had shot it with his crossbow, then shot it. 40 ####ing hours that poor creature had to endure pain like that because of this moron.

In 2008, Palmer pleaded guilty in federal court in Wisconsin to misleading a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear. Two years earlier, Palmer killed a bear near Phillips, in Price County. That location was 40 miles outside where bear hunting was allowed at the time.
Palmer and others transported the bear carcass to a registration station inside the allowed hunting zone. At the station, he falsely certified that the bear had been killed in the legal zone. He then brought the bear to Minnesota.
Twice, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent interviewed Palmer, who said he believed he killed the bear legally.
Palmer, who faced a maximum penalty of five years in prison, was sentenced to one year’s probation and fined nearly $3,000.

Well this is where internet shaming is very, very useful. This guy can pretty much say goodbye to his dental career or he needs to change his name because he is getting annihilated as bad as anyone I've ever seen on the net. Obviously he's a waste of life though so he deserves whatever he gets.

Sounds like an ideal place to put those convicted of poaching.

The trolling of his Yelp business profile is great:

I hope he becomes destroyed financially and can't pay to do these things anymore. Apparently reporters have camped his business and he can't open it.

Absolutely sickening reading that. Poor Cecil. Agreed this is the type of DB internet shaming is perfect for. I sincerely hope this derails his practice.

BE WARNED! He removes all of your teeth and then wears them around his neck as a ghastly trophy. His entire dentistry is littered with the body parts he claims as his own - even the drills are made out of sharpened fingerbones. Childrens' fingerbones. Because they're smaller, and also because he is the worst.

Another gem from Yelp.

Sickening.

I like how his statement seems to think this will all go away when it turns out he was "legally allowed" to do this. Newsflash: No one cares if this is legal or not, the practice itself is utterly deplorable and done by people with severe ego problems that feel like slaughtering these animals is a sign of superiority. That he blew $55,000 on this, legal or not, is utterly ####ed up.

This is why we need genetically engineered hunting parks. That way these weasels can get their kicks hunting T-Rex and other large predators.
Make it as dangerous as possible and make it the ultimate adrenaline rush by only allowing them to hunt like primitive man, with knives and spears.
If you survive the trip is free.
Guide 1 - "Do you think he'll survive hunting that T-rex?"
Guide 2 - "Nope"
Guide 1 to hunter - "Good luck or should I say good bye"
