Versteeg @ 2.2m/3 Years
Stone lands in Dallas or Vegas
Chaison @ ~1m/2 Years
Lose Shinkaruk to expansion
Jankowski brews in AHL
Engelland resigns cheap late in Summer when his Vegas plans fall through, dudes old
Gilles gets injured in the off season and is considered Krahn levels of injury prone
Hathaway is not qualified and we riot

I have a feeling this will be pretty close to what the roster is in September. You just don't see many drastic changes from this organization. I'm thinking we will sign Stone though and let England go. Maybe let Chaisson go so Lazar has a regular spot
Edit - disagree with the goalies. I think they will go after a big name like Bishop or MAF

If there is one that you cannot blame this ownership for, it is spending, they will spend. If the Caps fail again, there is a chance we can get Holtby(we will see.)

There are couple of things that indicate that there will be changes, the expansion draft-there will be traded to be made and I faith that Brad will do something, ever since, he's been here, he has made moves at draft. Arena-The Flames want a new arena and winning helps with that and that roster is not winning then anything.

Ya I hope you are right, I would love to see a couple big names come in. In the end though it always seems like a there's more talk then action when it comes to trades. Yes there's an expansion draft that adds a new element, but I guess i'm just skeptical that much comes out of it (with regards to the flames)

I know why you are skeptical but I think they need to do something, this is not Toronto, where they will keep coming no matter what.

Apparently Kovalchuk is coming back. Perhaps he signs a reasonable deal with NJ and then trades him to CGY? I'd take a shot.
34, so even if he pops off a 4m cap hit for 2 years, that's perfectly reasonable to me for a big Rs goal scorer.

Doesn't he need approval from all 30 teams to come back?
Either way, I doubt he comes back to the NHL to play in Calgary.

Kovalchuk is apparently making 5.5 mil in Russia this year so I imagine he would cost around that if he were to come over. Radulov reportedly turned down a 7 million dollar offer and came to play for Montreal for 5.75 so Kovalchuk's number could end up lower as well.
He'd be a hell of a pickup but I can't see what the Flames could offer NJ in order to do a sign and trade, probably start with the 17th OA and add a little bit.
I'd like to get Dadonov or Kovar over. They seem like they could be good pickups.

He needs approval from all teams if he signs with anyone else other than the Devils. So the figurative loophole in the stipulation is a sign and trade. Also, why not? Calgary is on the up. Kovalchuk is still a top line winger even at 34. He's actually a very logical fit for the Flames if the price is right.

@TomGulittiNHL
Ilya Kovalchuk wants to return to NHL and he can either play for Devils or needs approval of all teams to play elsewhere.
@FriedgeHNIC
Or whoever he wants to play for (and wants him) can work out a deal with NJ

Hey, I'd take him for sure. His NHLe this year was 85 points in a full NHL season. Now I wouldn't expect that much out of him but anything over 50 would be like found money.
I just think if he comes back it'll be to play in a bigger American market with one or more of his Russian buddies. Like Pittsburgh or Washington for instance.

Yeah, wouldn't sign Williams unless Vegas takes Brouwer off our hands.

Is Kovalchuk going to abandon his NHL team to go to the Olympics?

The more I think about it the more I think Bishop is a flame next season. Especially if we keep Treliving. The flames were close to a sign and trade deal once already. Then in another thread the rumour of us going after him at the previous deadline. Obviously Treliving likes his game. The way I see it there are 4 clear players for him. Dallas, Calgary, Winnipeg and Philly. I think Calgary is the best team on that list and in the best cap situation to offer him a fair contract. If I had to bet on one ufa we bring in this season I'd put my money on Bishop.

Reimer had a very good year splitting time with Lu. Not sure if we would call that a big FA signing, but it is working out well for Florida so far. It's rare that Big name/elite goalies are in free agency.

Mason was nominated in 2009, and he was never a UFA he was traded for Bobrovsky.
Niemi is a better example but only really had 2 good seasons out of 5 with Sharks and never put up consistent elite numbers like Bishop did with Tampa. Plus Niemi went UFA 3 years after his lone Vezina nomination, not 1 year after his 2nd in 3 years.
And neither were multiple Vezina finalists, more like flashes in the pan compared to Bishop.
