The hurdle point keeps on trucking upward with the Predators winning 8 in a row. Nashville now on a 95.5 point pace.

To get to 96 Calgary needs to keep winning; 15-6-1 or .705.

The Flames gain 5% to get to 27%, but 8 teams keep running away by percentage making it pretty fruitless.

Might want to have a slo mo look at the Kadri goal. Huberdeau instrumental in tying up the defender when Kadri trucked thru.

The percentages imply a 50% chance one of the Kings, Knights or Predators fall off. The kings have played .500 hockey since early December, while the flames are 10-games over .500 since early November. It's not inconceivable to see the flames and kings battling it out.

My friend also noted this Huby tie up on the replay. If Huby could some how figure out this game, the team - as currently constructed, and with the way Markstrom is playing - is pretty good. But we're now approaching 120 games with Huby and while things are trending up, he's still not really delivering much.

Then maybe they can out last St. Louis.

But as it standing they're not going to be a .700 hockey team even if they kept Markstrom and Hanifin.

He had a couple other plays (set up Pelletier but Pelletier wasn’t looking). But he’s had better games. I don’t really see the point in the out of the blue shot at him but whatever.

As for not delivering much, I suspect that, after Kadri, he’s been the most productive Flame in 2024 points wise.

I'm pretty sure Huberdeau hit the post on his chance in the first (they called it a save) and after that definitely had an off night compared to his form lately. Everyone does. Not worried about it unless it happens for multiple games in a row.

yeah I think with the trades, it ain't happening and likely long term future wise just as well, but the numbers do suggest 70% chance one of STL, CGY, Kraken or Wild are in- basically 'the field' has an even leg on the 'other 3'


I haven't put much thought into it lately but think those 'other 3' are either all going to mild buyers or stand pat though, not jettisoning assets

was the play with Kadri coming out of the penalty box? that seemed to be a decent sequence but afterwards the entire team went into 20 minutes of hibernation

regarding your all time goalie rankings, pretty clear to me Markstrom is now solidly in that top 4 (top 5 if you want to include Atlanta/Dan Bouchard) with Kipper, Vernon, and the (forgotten by many- but not our vintage) Reggie Lemelin. As for one and two? well Vernon had the playoff and team success as a last line of defence in a firewagon era, but Kipper did more team carrying easily



I'd say those 4 are the ones with a tenure really worth thinking about much in Calgary (yes Freddie! was Freddie), Turek (and some of the others- BSD, Ramo, Tabby) had their moments, sometimes even an entire season of inspired play, but.. (and I know we have tools now- even basic ones like save pct let alone fancy stats that help paint some of the pictures- but very hard to compare eras there for many reasons)

Lemelin was terrific.

I remember after he went to Boston, they talked about how he was still able to be such a good goalie at the age he was then. I believe the theory was that he tried to get out of the way of the puck, but wasn't fast enough.
