Hiller to start Friday. Winning the #1 battle?
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Jonas Hiller will start for the #Flames on Friday.
looks like the goalie rotation has stopped and Hiller has emerged on top

I liked Ramo better early on in the season.
But Hiller has been playing better lately.
He deserves to start on Friday

Hiller as the #1 is the right move in my opinion. From what I have seen so far this year Hiller has been more reliable, consistent and solid than Ramo.

Hiller has been really good - 1.63 GAA, 3-2-1, .948%.
It's unfortunate for Ramo. He played great down the stretch and has been really solid so far though 5 games. If Hiller wasn't on the roster, I would have been very happy with the Flames' goaltending so far.

Yeah. Hiller is going to turn average at some point this year, and Ramo will probably get a stretch of games. We'll likely see this scenario a few times back and forth.

Ramo had a hot start out of the gate, and then Hiller cranked it up.

I think this was always Hartley's plan. Go strict rotation for 10 games, then go hot hand like last year.

I'd honestly like to see them go 50/50 all year unless one really shows to be head and shoulders better than the other. Hiller has been better, but not by much. And they have both been excellent. I'd say keep swapping until one falls off. If they go this way all year, great. I think it would be good for both tenders' psyche if they knew they were playing every other game regardless.

Hiller deserves this chance imo. He has done everything + more for what we could ask of him. Ramo's contract is over after this season, so either Ramo will need to play unreal for a chance to be signed again or perhaps the Flames trade him/not sign him at the end of the season. Either way this is a great problem to have.

I dont think there is any #1 yet.
IMO Hiller should have started after his shutout regardless of the rotation.
After a great performance like last night I think you go back to him.
If he has a poor game, its Ramo's turn to carry the torch.

They probably want to give Ramo the start in Montreal so they don't get to face Hiller twice in 5 days so Hiller gets his start on Friday.

I don't see why you have to declare a #1. Just play whoever seems to be playing the best, and rotate out as necessary.

I would want Ramo to play against Nashville... He already did once and did really well.

Awesome ''problem'' for the Flames to have. Ramo is by no means a push over. He's been very good. Hiller has been excellent. I have faith in both goalies.

I agree with this 100%, but this doesn't always seem to be the way it works. Meritocracy? If you earn, you should get to keep on going. I think it can be simple, you play poorly and team plays poorly and you get yanked. Nothing wrong with this IMO.

After a questionable start, I am pretty eager to watch these guys progress throughout the remainder of the season. Goaltending has been stellar, and I must say Hillers equipment goes so well with our home uniforms that he LOOKS like he should be our #1.
Also, can't say enough about that blue line.

It would be interesting to see what kind of return we could get for Hiller at 50% while he is playing hot. A legit starter signed for 2 years at $2.25M would be pretty valuable. If we could extend Ramo and with Ortio coming up it's nice to have options.

I hope from here on out they keep running the hotter hand. Saying that, I really hope they keep communication up with their goalies, ensuring that if they aren't starting it does not mean they have lost the confidence of the coaching staff, or if they lose one game and don't start the next they should be playing afraid to lose. That's the wrong way to go about it. Have to keep both goalies knowing that the only reason they aren't playing is the fact that we have two great goalies, and not that we don't trust you to be our number 1.
Basically keep it positive.
