I am surprised that Andersson still isn't getting more attention.
I like McDonald, but with goalies I am cautious to judge them before the age of 21.

CP sure likes goalies. You would think we would have developed one into a starter in the last 25 years or something. But no, they've always disappointed. Oh well, after this round there won't be any goalies left to bungle up the rankings.
And hopefully I'm just overly pessimistic and all 3 of our goalie prospects become NHLers. Then we can flip the extra ones for 2nds and 3rds!

I picked Arnold, but hovered over Hathaway. I think Culkin needs to get into the discussion too, he was arguably our best D on the farm last season.

Arnold. Has this season to cement a roster spot and a contract. I feel like he has Stephane Yelle written all over him.

Morrison.
I expect him to play 30+ games in the NHL this season, and wouldn't be shocked if he beats out Wotherspoon for a spot in the fall.
Andersson's going to need to have a huge draft +1 season before I'll slot him into my top 15, much like Hickey in last year's polls. Just too many other solid options that I know more about.

I'd love to hear why people are hyped up about McDonald? His numbers seem average, and he doesn't have a ton of WJ clout or anything, what do people like about him?

From everything I've seen he's far and away the most likely contender to be the starter for Canada at the world juniors this year. His numbers aren't great as a result of playing in the QMJHL where no goalies put up great numbers, but a lot of forwards do. He was his team's MVP this year on a team that included potential first rounder Daniel Sprong.

He had the second highest save percentage in his league last year, only behind an overager. His numbers don't look good because of the risky systems played in the QMJHL that favor offense.

He's likely going to the WJs for Canada this year.

Athletic enough to rob Sidney Crosby, pretty big, and has taken a massive step in his technique in a year. He might very well have more upside than Gillies or Ortio for all we know.

AHL Y1 : 0.50ppg
Ryan Culkin:
Draft Year: 0.42ppg

Draft + 2 : 0.80ppg
AHL Y1 : 0.49ppg
I know points aren't really the whole story. And it was Brodie developing his 200ft game that really made him the player he is but in terms of pure offensive progression Culkin has taken very similar steps of improvement to Brodie.
Kulak started the year in the ECHL but a similar progression once he did work his way up as well.
Brett Kulak:
Draft Year : 0.33ppg
Draft +1 : 0.61ppg
Draft + 2 : 0.86ppg
ECHL Y1 : 0.77ppg
AHL Y1 : 0.5ppg
If either of those guys could turn into half as good a player as Brodie is that would be a win for this team.
|
The quad group of Kulak, Culkin, Hickey and Morrison all look very similar and the scary thing is that as good as Kulak and Culkin are, they are not as good as either Hickey or Morrison. If those 4 continue to progress as they are, the Flames will have an absolutely disgusting top 6.

vote count a little low on this one ... going to bump it up and replace it with round 12 in about 90 minutes.

I think your right. Morrison will probably be the first call up. I like Wotherspoon but he needs to take a serious step forward and come out flying at training camp.
