I think one the things that bothers me about "Fury", is how do you even make that into a decent logo? It would probably be just word marking or some random cartoon character who looks furious. Same thing with "Shredders".

Same thing with Blizzard... angry snowflakes? Just a white jersey with no logo, white-on-white numbers & namebars?

Taking a while to get to 5000

Avalanche is a stylized "A" so I assume Blizzard would be a windswept looking B?
This is why its going to be Yetis. So much easier.

There's actually a lot of teams named the Blizzard and they have various logos, some of which are pretty good. A lot incorporate a Yeti. Just google it.

My point was more it's not a visible... "thing". So you likely end up with the name just written out in snowy/icy font, or follow the Flames and just have a snowy/icy U or B or something. Googling it leads mostly to those type of results.
Was a comment to someone saying the same about Fury or Shredders. Not really an issue, just expanding on the discussion.

I'd say at least 50% of the results on google are a Yeti, followed by solme wolves and polar bears.
But hell, a lot of the teams in the league don't have a primary logo that's more than the name or inital. And they are some of the classics.

Save "Furies" for the inevitable MLB team...
It would be incredibly awesome to have a Baseball Furies team.

Here are some ideas that I think would be good considerations that most people will probably hate.
Famous outlaws from Utah include the Wild Bunch (A.K.A, the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid gang of bandits). Sundancers is probably too hokey for a hockey team (although it would also reference Wyoming, which would be in their media market), but I would go with something like the Utah Outlaws or Utah Bandits.
Plays up on something unique to Utah and doesn't copy any teams in any of the big major leagues in NA.
I mentioned it in the other thread, but the paranormal and alien concepts would fit in with Utah, would be unique in NA major leagues, and would have a tonne of marketing potential. People eat that stuff up.
|
I don't think any of Wyoming will be in the Utah broadcast territory. Bettman mentioned they are just flipping Utah out of the Knights territory, so it should just be Utah, Arizona, and western New Mexico.
I think they will fight to get Idaho out of Seattle/Las Vegas territory.

I love Utah HC (Hockey Club).
Failing that, Utah Yetis would be my choice.

The Utah TEETH. It incorporates the Osmonds and fights a hockey stereotype at the same time.
