Default Refusing to pay for work that wasn't done properly...

So I had a mechanical company come by my place on Tuesday to fix the diverter in my shower, as it was not diverting water from the tap to the showerhead. They come an hour late, spend 5 minutes on it, replace a cheap O-ring that had shattered, and leave. The diverter worked fine for 3 days, but now it is broken again, and is no longer diverting water from the tap to the shower head.

Since I have to call the company back and get the problem fixed for a second time, do I have a right to refuse paying for the original service? The company has a minimum one hour labour charge on any house call, and I don't mind paying it, as long as they fix the issue the first time. However, I think it is a little ridiculous that the problem arises again 4 days later.

Any thoughts? Similar experiences?

IMHO, You paid for the first visit which didn't solve the problem. They are coming back to rectify the issue right?

I think you need to give the Co. a chance first. They've acknowledged that they didn't get it right the first time so they are coming back to take another crack at it. Let them try to follow through with their original intention and see what happens from there before telling them you are not going to pay.

Well, one of the visits should be free IMO. Personally I'd pay for the original work and assume they would be fixing their mistakes free of charge.

I should mention I hadn't called them before the original post...
They did just call me back and offered to fix it for free, therefore problem solved.

Well I think you shouldn't be charged another 'one hour' but rather instead time be added to the first time. It being free is just for customer relations.

I'd pay for the original work and have them fix their shoddy work free of charge.
