Good write up. Always appreciate your perspective. The Flames over-achieved last year but good coaching and timely (clutch) goal scoring pulled them through. In four games this year I would argue we have seen neither. Goaltending needs to be better, but unless the offence improves we will see a big step back this year.

If the Flames bury their chances in the first its 3-0 or 4-0 and its game over. Unfortunately they played like it was 3-0 or 4-0.

It has to be Ortio's turn. You can't trust Ramo right now and Hiller was not stellar in either start.

Ugh, I hate to say or think this, but what if the naysayers were right?

The write-up is good. Thanks. The writing continues to progress.

It is pretty early in the season to talk about rock bottom. This is where Jack Adams coaches are made, right. Flames need coaching now.

The Flames have had horrible puck luck. Goals bouncing in off skates, off shin pads, floaters from the point through traffic. In the O zone they've missed the net a lot and made one too many passes a bunch of times. I feel like I'm one of the few who isn't worried....yet. They haven't been great but a few different bounces and they could be 3-1 instead of 1-3.

Will be nice to get Brodie back, really hope they reunite him with Gio (who had his best game of the season tonight).

Thought the Flames played an OK road game, bending not breaking, more than enough chances to put one in and win 2-1. A bad goal in a game like that, however, is fatal. And that was a very bad goal.

I think you nailed it D'arcy. Couldn't have said it better myself.

The Flames are only playing 4 d-men.

Out of 189 NHL d-men that have played 2 games Kulak ranks 189 in TOI/gm and Engelland ranks 186.

The Flames have their top-4 all playing more minutes than Shea Weber and Dustin Byfuglien.

Wideman and Russell were amazing and handled the huge minutes the last 20 games of last year, carrying the team into the playoffs.

Maybe I am over-reacting but Byfuglien has a lot of energy and jump in the last 2 minutes and Wideman needed a lot more energy to at least threaten to make contact with Byfuglien to not allow him to skate around him.

Once Byfuglen was 2 strides past Wideman Ramo's job becomes a lot more difficult, He has a lot more options to cover. The open passing lane to the slot, that Russell was sliding across to try to cover, Byfuglien driving the net or the shot against the post that went in.

When is Brodie back?

Brodie is a massive piece of the D corps equation. So much so that once he gets back. We will have 3 equal pairings. You can see Hartley beginning the slow integration of Hamilton with Kulak last night.

Gio-Brodie should not be broken up

Wideman-Russell should not be broken up

Hamilton- Kulak/a wind up symbol playing monkey or whoever. So much balance. Extra minutes are given via special teams.

Once that all irons itself out, then we'll see the eliteness.
